    Pros

Working at the corporate center has been rewarding; I get to talk to employees from other departments and figure out what career path I want to pursuit.

I have been working at Cathay General Bancorp part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone is really helpful. The work itself is pretty easy, although as a teller i cannot comment on other facets of the bank.

    Cons

Not much of a ladder to climb. Almost no exit opportunities or in house growth opportunities to speak of.

I have been working at Cathay General Bancorp full-time

    Pros

Great people in the department. Staff willing to help and teach if you're willing to learn. Great place to start once you are out of college.

    Cons

Sometimes the work comes in late from branches so it pushes lunch times. Have to be willing to sacrifice going to lunch on time to make sure work is completed before deadline time.

    Advice to Management

Hard for promotion unless you work really really hard. Hire younger people and keep them--at least give them a shot of being a permanent employee. Their work ethics and speed is more accurate and reliable.

I have been working at Cathay General Bancorp full-time

    Pros

The office culture is very friendly. Most people have been with the bank for many years and know what they are doing. The human resources department is very nice and willing to work with employees to make sure that the best possible outcome occurs. Hours are pretty standard without too much overtime.

    Cons

Because people are with the bank for a long time, there are not many positions open for career advancement. In addition, people are not too willing to try new things if the way it's always worked before has been ok.

    Recommends

    Pros

Responsibilities that have an impact on the company
Senior management is supportive when an individual is self-driven
Hands-on tasks give interns a lot of experience and knowledge of the banking industry

    Cons

Sometimes response from co-workers was slow, so an intern is not able to get their work done.

    Advice to Management

Build an efficient workflow process for documentation. Develop better ways to electronically store large batches of documents (loan files).
