I worked at Catholic Charities USA as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Progressive agenda with typically progressive and empathetic staff. The agency (on multiple management levels) really seems to care about the population that they serve

    Cons

Super low salary (but that is to be expected in social services non-profit work). Biggest con is that the agency is so underfunded that many of the services advertised become unavailable simply due to a lack of finances

    Advice to Management

Work harder to retain dedicated staff

I worked at Catholic Charities USA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Serves those that others have given up on. Welcomes anyone, regardless of beliefs/ background. Services prevent homelessness. My staff and clients were a blessing. My manager deeply ethical and fair.

    Cons

Safety was frighteningly lax and out of date, considering criminal element in client population. New position was unrealistic. The workload and responsibility, compared to pay rate, (annual pay freezes) was unacceptable.

    Advice to Management

Don't minimize workload during interview to fill a position. Expect underappreciated employees to leave.

I worked at Catholic Charities USA full-time

    Pros

If you're ambitious there's great opportunity to jump in and grow by taking on new responsibilities (there is always more to be done). Organization appears to be shifting in positive directions, but change is slow.

    Cons

Internal politics and siloed mentalities prevent strategic goal-setting and accomplishment. Priorities often shift on whims from leadership.

    Advice to Management

Expect managers to, and reward them for, managing and developing people, not just projects.

I worked at Catholic Charities USA full-time

    Pros

NPO with good mission and people who try their best. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Management bullying, high-turnover rate/high burnout rate, focus on money vs. client

    Advice to Management

    Do better.

I have been working at Catholic Charities USA as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I basically get to set my own hours. The company is glad for my help in anyway they can get it, and the work itself is very rewarding.

    Cons

Pay is limited for non full time positions, so a lot of internships will be unpaid. Additionally, there aren't a lot of designated departments for since Catholic Charities will differ from location to location.

    Advice to Management

Although I understand the burden of trying to do more with the limited resources they have, I would suggest implementing a uniform structure or plan form dealing with the ever growing need to analyse data should be paramount to a organization like Catholic Charities

    Pros

Quick hire, good benefits. Shared expression of frustrations with coworkers.

    Cons

You get thrown in and are expected to learn a lot yourself. The adolescents are extremely aggressive and assault staff. The St. Cloud police are there multiple times a day. Understaffed and overworked.
