I have been working at Catholic Community Services of Western WA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Wonderful mission, great management, is very rewarding to see people recover, team focus, potlucks, flexible schedule, downtown Olympia, cultural competence, good values.

    Cons

Work life balance can be difficult in this line of work in general and within this agency. Clinicians are on call (to families and staff) and schedules vary depending on family and team availabilities. For example you may have a 7am team meeting at a school, a 11am staffing, 3pm appointment and a 6pm appointment. This is manageable but your day is spread out. Also paperwork can be a slog at times.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work, keep supporting your staff and the families they serve. Thank you for providing us with opportunities to further our own development. Thank you for creating a very special work culture.

I worked at Catholic Community Services of Western WA full-time

    Pros

    The pay was great.

    Cons

Work/life balance is awful. You are on call 24 hours a day along with weekend rotations. Working in unsafe environments and you only have support over the phone with little guidance even if you do not know how to handle a situation. If you are a masters-level therapist, don’t waste your time because this job is mostly case management and crisis intervention. They will force you to do “behavior support” shifts which is for people with high school diplomas.

    Advice to Management

Fully explain job responsibilities when you offer a position to employees. Maybe your turnover wouldn’t be so high.

I worked at Catholic Community Services of Western WA full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company as a whole has a great vision. Catholic community services has a wonderful social justice ethic. They strive to provide good compensation.

    Cons

I work at the Tacoma North End Site. I don’t feel like I can discuss how I am truly feeling with my supervisors. I live most work days in fear of something going wrong and being gaslighted or having my job security threatened by offering my opinion to supervisors. It is a crisis job, but the management sincerely pushes the storyline that “some people are not cut out for the job” as a way to deal with the high turn over. This storyline that supervisors feed new and old employees sends a very harmful, even abusive message to employees. Vicarious trauma is very serious; as a mental health agency we should be leading the way in the way we embody health to set an example for other first responders. Simply put, it is a toxic work environment and I would sugggest it could inevitably hurt your career and mental health to work here.

    Advice to Management

Safety and trust between managers and clinicians should be the top vision for management. Management should consider their own experience as causing blindness and get more outside consulting. I’ve personally heard managers complain about employees within earshot of those employees. Truly, continue to see the best in and respect those you have hired. Analyze data and run over rates of turnover and consider it as a very important variable for healing with families. I guarantee you will see a correlation.

    Pros

    Amazing team collaboration and clients.

    Cons

Too big of case loads and not enough support or stress for self-care

    Advice to Management

Pay more and you'll have less turn over. Too big of case loads is not good for client care.
