I worked at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Friendly doctors and nurses, standard health benefits and 401k, vacation. Nice hospital with private rooms. People are nice to assist if you get lost.

    Cons

Favoritism between managers and subordinates, out dated labs, not much communication between groups, lack of any work life balance. Politics, it can be a real negative environment

    Advice to Management

Look into managers and high turnover rates.

I have been working at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Talented technical staff. good benefits.

    Cons

They hired network administrators to be the leaders of an IT organization. The new CTO does not support his staff. He bad mouths employees behind their back as does his Director clone. The CIO should take note of how poorly his projects are being handled by the CTO and how little technology is understood by the directors. Buying your degree does not make you qualified to be a leader. The cloud sounded good till you have to use it. Poor choice by the CIO. Its obvious that leadership is trying to help entice people to quit with their recent attendance policy changes. That leads one to believe that layoffs are just on the horizon.

    Advice to Management

Take a good hard look at your EIS CTO and his network cronies. CIO shouldnt be backing people that have such poor values. Open your eyes mr CIO, he was a poor choice to lead and hes only propping up his boys as well as not telling you whats really going on. You can go meet your venture capital friends after you clean up the mess because you are gone to much.

I have been working at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    The pay is satisfactory.

    Cons

Very political environment. Not innovative or forward thinking. It's a very "old school" conservative environment. Department leadership in most areas is inept at managing staff. Management operates with a hierarchical system and it must be strictly adhere to. There is limited to no career growth potential. If you do get a promotion its in title only. Most often, you will continue doing the same job. Management jobs are hired externally very rarely promoted from within the organization. Most people stay for the money, they have no passion or drive.

    Advice to Management

No advice. They will NEVER listen.

I have been working at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Fantastic pay (not the BEST, but close)
    Amazing Benefits
    Senior Leadership is pretty good
The healthcare staff are all absolutely great
    Pretty decent upward momentum

    Cons

    Middle management is lackluster
    Poor communication from middle management
Invisible expectations that you're held to
No new employee training (for my department)
    Poor support documentation
Following the direction and advice of your supervisor can land you in hot water

    Advice to Management

Have CLEAR expectations and communication (stop the buzzword landslide)
    Support those you manage better
The issue is not with senior management, it's middle management that's the problem

I worked at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Helping the patients, being basically one of the only reasons the patient returns for medical care. Also knowing the cares that you will take the time to listen to their concerns and complaints.

    Cons

Cedars will tell you that they will help you advance, when you have tried everything they've asked of you and more you get nothing but a slap in the face if you're not the one they want to advance. If you are in the office constantly complaining to upper management, instead of trying to fix the problem that you have the authority to fix and then take the solution to management, they will "do what they need to keep the employee quite".

    Advice to Management

The companies values are only what they make them as they go depending on who you are. My advice to the president of the company is to start new with the management from the top down, he would see a change in the company for the better, it may take some time but it will happen. Some of Cedars top notch Doctors left the company because of issues I have stated and its sad.

I worked at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Learning new skills and understand the games/ politics of a large organization.

    Cons

If you're not part of the in-crowd,brown nose or Jewish there's no hope for your success.. Their Employee Contracts are At-Will, and upper management will terminate you, if they think you're overly confident, driven and goal orientated . Thus, they are intimidated by your drive and agile approach to situations in the workplace, etc. This was my second place of employment and a negative experience. I'm certain the CEO ( a very kind family man), has no idea how employees' are being unfairly treated and harassed. It would be of great benefit if Cedars-Sinai could implement the Undercover Boss!!!

    Advice to Management

This was my second place of employment and a negative experience. I'm certain the CEO ( a very kind family man), has no idea how employees' are being unfairly treated and harassed. It would be of great benefit if Cedars-Sinai could implement the UNDERCOVER BOSS investigation method , as they would be astonished by the influx of the harassment and bullying complaints by the minorities!!!!
