    Pros

The schedules were very flexible for the most part. Colleagues are very bright and helpful. The size of the company created a very close knit environment where interdepartmental communication were frequent.

    Cons

Since the acquisition by Quest Diagnostic, Celera has slowly deteriorated. As benefits slowly aligned with corporate Quest Diagnostic, it became very clear that Celera was no longer an appealing place to work. Medical benefits offered is the bare minimum. Quest Diagnostic only observes 5 holidays per year.

    Advice to Management

Please stop appeasing to the all the wishes and demands of corporate Quest Diagnostic. The future of the company was set once Quest Diagnostic became involved.

I worked at Celera Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

When I first began with Celera I felt spoiled with perks -- free salad at lunch, donuts on Friday mornings, pretzels and animal crackers .. even hand lotion in the ladies restroom. Nice group of employees - almost everyone hard working and wanting to make a difference

    Cons

Celera hit tough times financially and was purchased by Quest in 2011 - perks went away. Local management now answering to Quest management - never really felt a part of Quest.

    Advice to Management

It was great while it lasted -- Too bad we couldn't hold out a few more years .. we could have pulled thru the hard times ...

    Pros

Good compensation and benefits. Aside from C level staff, a good group to work with.

    Cons

Overpaid, underworked management that kept a distance, both physically and culturally, from the rest of the company.

    Advice to Management

    Get acquired. Retire.

Nothing I can think out of my mind.

    Cons

    1. Very weak upper management, but lots of political issues.
    2. Most of talented people are gone.
    3. Quest keeps trying to sell the company.
    4. Not competitive salary.

    Advice to Management

Nothing can be changed to be better, but close it.

I worked at Celera Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay, some good people, some good products.

    Cons

Really bad senior leadership. Poor business prospects. Toxic culture - playing the blame game is very common.

    Advice to Management

None - they should be replaced.

I worked at Celera Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are some genuinely nice people working at Celera who were once part of Berkeley Heart Labs. There are also some nice Quest Diagnostics folks who work across the country.

    Cons

When I worked there, it was blatant sexism and salary jealousy with a newly hired middle manager. I should have complained right away to HR, but I didn't in time.

    Advice to Management

Check out the competencies on some of the middle management Bozos you hire before hiring them.

    Pros

pay and benefits are pretty good. You can have a 9 to 5 job if you want.

    Cons

Lots of politics, middle management in general display no leadership, no strategic plan can be perceived.

    Advice to Management

Develop a better strategy, also improve the middle management layer. Too many truly mediocre people are in charge

    Pros

Great group of people to work with. Small company feel exposing you to many areas of the business.

    Cons

Being part of Quest Diagnostics has put a lot of constraints on how things are done. There are many more layers of red tape and inefficiencies of a big company.
