I have been working at Cellmark full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great group of people working together in a fast paced environment. Competitive salaries and generous 401k plan. Very active in social responsibility.
    Never a dull moment.

    Cons

The stresses that come with a fast paced environment do not always bring out the best in people. Communication needs improvement. Management has taken steps to identify problems and improvements are in place.

I worked at Cellmark full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Interesting historic building. Good location. Easy parking. Very convenient for train commuters. About a block from the station. Near local attractions.

    Cons

Management, unprofessional environment, hr lawsuit waiting to happen every 5 minutes, your tolerance for booze is more important than a work ethic, no constructive criticism or real coaching, no growth potential, pay sucks, no annual reviews or merit increases, young, unseasoned employees given more value, favoritism.

    Advice to Management

Clean up, dry out, get some leadership training and stop treating your more experienced "team"members like crap. You will lose your best assets. It's a business not an unending frat party. Playing favorites, yelling and micromanagement don't work. Lack of respect, backstabbing and inappropriate behavior made working there a nightmare.

    Pros

work / life balance is good, flex hours, good benefits, pay okay

    Cons

Horrible condescending management. MB If you don't mind yelling, extreme micro management, go for it. There is no where to move up.

    Advice to Management

Yelling and micromanaging does not work

I have been working at Cellmark full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Global industry in a dynamic market. Great experience on how a commodities trading company functions.

    Cons

No growth and demoralizing management who explicitly promises that you will not grow in their organization.

    Advice to Management

Either clean house of less valuable human resources or continue to loose great talent. Also professional development for management staff to teach them to be leaders. No one is born knowing how to lead, it is something that must be taught.

I worked at Cellmark full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Flexible schedules and decent compensation.

    Cons

I just read a review regarding the management at Cellmark. Although I left two years ago, that review was correct - especially senior management. They are bullies. HR does not care. They are some of the worst enablers.

I worked at Cellmark (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Good salary. They were flexible with time. Learned a lot during my tenure. Good 401k benefits. There isn't much more I can say positive

    Cons

I have never seen managers get away with treating employees so bad. Degrading. Demoralizing. HR doesn't care. Management bullied and harassed. They always had to have someone to pick on.

    Advice to Management

One of these days you will be sued. I would suggest some management training courses. HR - would suggest a severe review of managers if you want to keep good employees.

I worked at Cellmark full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Global company with decades of experience in commodities and logistics. Some really great people in middle management.

    Cons

The good people are far outnumbered by the horrible people. Demeaning, threatening, yelling and intimidation are all the tactics used by the managers to "keep the troops in line". The San Rafael Packaging group is the worst of them all, with a constantly revolving hamster wheel of turn over. I saw 8 people come and go in a year while the manager sat in her office reading the newspaper and doing assignments for her MBA program. 10-12 hour days were the norm with no effort made to balance workloads. Zero growth opportunities. Low pay. Pitiful "bonuses". Expensive benefits. Incredibly stressful work environment both by nature (containers and ships never stop moving) as well as by all mentioned above.

    Advice to Management

You need to rethink employee engagement, growth opportunities and culture before you can even get close to becoming a "Great Place to Work". Take a survey of the few employees you have left in your high turnover divisions and ask them what needs to change. Sometimes a "loyal" middle manager needs to go if she's costing the company more to compensate for her horrible management style by constantly filling the same position month after month, year after year. You should create a place where people are happy to stay, not one that makes you relieved to never, ever have to set foot in again.

Independent work style. No micro-management. Flexible hours.

    Cons

No room for growth. No incentives or bonus structure. Lack of training.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to train the employees you have and allow them to grow within the organization.
