I worked at Cellular Dynamics Intl full-time

    Pros

Sick days!! That's right you actually get 5 sick days to use each year, vacation was not anything to get excited about though.

    Cons

This company should be leaps and bounds ahead of where it is right now but QA had them following stricter regulations than what was needed and a lot of hoops needed to be jumped through that were not necessary. No communication between groups.

    Advice to Management

I think Bruce will help things move forward now.

I have been working at Cellular Dynamics Intl full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Many great people, exciting work. Having been at the company for several years I've seen the growth of the company first-hand and there is great potential with high expectations.

    Cons

Promotions top out if you don't have a PhD. Recent acquisition by FujiFilm has caused some growing pains as company policies are changing. Claims of transparency haven't always panned out.

    Advice to Management

Treat people fairly and equally. Stop playing politics when the careers of those under you are in play. Follow through with promises of transparency, fairness and the vision for company growth.

I have been working at Cellular Dynamics Intl full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people, innovative ideas, work with human cell lines is interesting. Flexible work hours, good health benefits.

    Cons

Weekend work. Not much PTO (Only 2 weeks of PTO the first year). Building is outdated and at full capacity (only 1 bathroom for both sexes with a company of ~150 people). Below average pay. Not many paid holidays.

    Advice to Management

Start work on a new building or buy a new space. Be more transparent about the company direction.

    Pros

CDI does a pretty good job recruiting and bringing in talented employees, so the overall research group is great to work with. The quality of the work is strongly determined by the group, but a majority of the groups are lead by competent and good people. There are probably 10-15 groups at a given time, and usually only 1 or 2 are "bad", with the rest being good or great.

The C-level leadership seems to do a good job based on quarterly profit statements, but for a smaller company, they are fairly quiet about company goals.

The benefits are great. Health and dental coverage included, vision discount. 401K matches half of employees contribution up to $1000 (CDI could do better here), and basic life insurance and short-term disability coverage.

    Cons

At times, there are contradictions between upper-level management and mid-level management. It is difficult to know what is going on with the C-level employees at times, and you are just left to expect they are doing what they are supposed to.

I have been working at Cellular Dynamics Intl full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good people, and nice company culture. There are some systems in place that are typically found at larger companies, which will hopefully allow for easier growth.

    Cons

To nit-pick, there are not as many perks as other biotech or tech companies have, and very few paid holidays on top of little PTO.
