I have been working at Cenovus full-time

    Pros

There are a lot of great people who work here, but they are not being utilized to their full potential

    Cons

The path to success at Cenovus appears to be paved with Yes Men/Women. No one seems to question leadership at any level, and that is the behaviour that is rewarded.

    Advice to Management

Be visible, approachable, non threatening, step off of your pedestal and talk to the people. You hired them because they're smart, see what they have to say. Career opportunities have little regard for the needs/growth of the individual.

    I worked at Cenovus full-time

    Pros

Great company in the day. High morale. Was not even about the perks as much as it was the feeling of a team and being a part of something great.

    Cons

Communication is a thing of the past. Nnow it is hide everything from the employees blow smoke when needed. Very poor decisions by upper management. When times were great, money was spent like it was growing on trees. They ask us to forward think however they do not do the same. Upper management needs to be cleaned out.

    Advice to Management

Make those that you have left feel they are needed and appreciated. Not giving raises to those that have managed multiple jobs since lay offs, have given years to the company, it is called dedication and appreciation. Do the right thing for the low man on the pole not just upper management. Lower employees work hard to make their management look good.

I have been working at Cenovus full-time

    Pros

Love the people I work with.

    Cons

Management needs to be cleaned out. From a site level, the superintendents/field managers are manipulative jerks who just want things their way and hate anyone who disagrees with them.

    Advice to Management

I have worked for this company since 2011 and when I started things were great. However, the last few years have been terrible. The managers are manipulative and at times fully incompetent. People are afraid to speak up for fear of being singled out and fired for it. The new CEO needs to start at the top and clean house quickly because I feel that as soon as the oil industry comes out of this downturn, all those great people who once flocked to Cenovus are going to fly out the door.

I have been working at Cenovus full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and for the most part good people.

    Cons

Leadership has become self serving and has lost focus on what matters most, it's people and making money for it's investors.

    Advice to Management

Re-evaluate the need to have so many VPs and start recognizing and utilizing the talent of those beneath the VPs.

I have been working at Cenovus full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Many of the pros have come down but salary is still good but not what it used to be. Safety conscious and promotes it constantly.

    Cons

Lowered camp pay and benefits mean worker loyalty and hard work means nothing except to the pocket books of senior staff or the board. Efforts and hard work are no longer rewarded and with recent the recent acquisitions there are plans to rob employees even more to pay for it. Morale is at an all time low but the upper management doesn't care about this and seems more inclined to have senior workers leave so that new folk (if the position is filled) don't realize what they are getting in to. Field and Calgary operations are very understaffed but the levels of work have gone up making it nearly impossible to manage. Calgary staff are scared to make any decisions and Field staff are picking up on this making it very hard to have decisive actions done especially when faced with new or one off scenarios. Questioning any of these decisions has led to negative feedback, disciplinary actions and will undoubtedly lead to lower bonuses due to lower PA ratings. New PA bonus structure will pit employer against employee in the same teams meaning that there is now a scenario where people will be thrown under the bus. There is a sense of doom and gloom in all locations including Calgary.

    Advice to Management

Quit buying assets with money you don't have. Reward people for good work and quit attacking their pay cheques just so you can give the stock holders high dividends. Quit devaluing the work force with one hand then say how important the workers are on the other when this is a complete falsehood shown by previous 'cost cutting measure's'. Bring back "One Cenovus".

I have been working at Cenovus full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lucky to have a job in recurrent economic climate.

    Cons

Rules and standards communicated to company regarding discretionary spend in lean times not followed by VP's and EVP's. Lack of resources given for projects or out day to day jobs. If someone leaves the company, we can not replace them.

    Advice to Management

Should focus more on employee retention and listen to teams when they tell you what they need for resources.
