I worked at Center for Discovery full-time

    Pros

Helping individuals reach goals, work with some great people

    Cons

Under staffed, too many residents without enough staff coverage. Working with aggressive individuals and constantly getting injured by residents due to their behaviors. Senior staff been has zero compassion for new staff trying to learn the ropes. There is no consistency with the daily schedule and changes all the time, this is hazardous when working with individuals with ASD. You never receive yearly raises and will not learn this until after you are hired on. If you are a woman who is considering becoming pregnant, DO NOT apply at the center. There are no breaks for staff. My advice is find another place to work. RUN!

    Advice to Management

Treat the direct care staff with more respect and pay them better because with out these positions, the center would NOT exist.

I worked at Center for Discovery full-time

    Pros

Fun exciting environment, great staff and corporate management

    Cons

Benefits are lacking and salary isn't very competitive, need to stabilize company culture before expanding so quickly, some managers at facilities are difficult to deal with

    Advice to Management

Focus on reducing turnover of floor staff and improve on pay

I have been working at Center for Discovery full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great opportunities to advance given the company's expansion rate. You can move up fast if you are willing to relocate. Great way to get lots of early experience.

    Cons

Management and leadership are often chaotic and MIA. Compensation rates are low and do not meet industry standard.

    Advice to Management

Slow down and give employees some more support.

    Pros

Being able to work with teens full time. Teen therapy hours.

    Cons

No individual therapy experience for counselors.

    Advice to Management

Advocate for more therapy supervision time for staff.

I have been working at Center for Discovery full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Working with teenagers with mental health issues is difficult, but it can be rewarding when you have some that really want to work on getting better -Most coworkers are very supportive and understanding -Depends on the FA and director...but some are amazing, some a really bad -Good experience running groups and building confidence

    Cons

-Upper management promises things they can't deliver all the time. Management is mostly all talk but can't walk the walk -Pay is low but it worked for me, because the job is not difficult. This company is shady and it is about the bottom dollar -This job worked only because it was somewhat stable, and I don't like leaving a company

    Advice to Management

Don't promise your employees one thing and then not follow through on that promise.

    Pros

It is good for introductory clinical experience.

    Cons

Terrible place to work. Employees are fake, two faced, and act like they are supportive or there to help but will throw you under the bus the first chance they get. I feel bad for the eating disorder patients being treated here as the "treatment" provided by Center For Discovery consisted of holding patients captive and force feeding them processed foods just to be fattened them up. The therapists and counselors are inexperienced and lack the knowledge to know how to work with psychological disorders and prepare them for the real world outside of treatment. "Counselors" spend their time babysitting the patients, doing dishes, munching off free food, and doing arts and crafts. Management is so poor that they fail to train employees how to work in their wacked out pseudo clinical environment which is nothing more than working in a house with pointless policies that do not benefit the employees nor the patients. poor management no training ridiculous policies

    Advice to Management

increase the rate of pay for your employees and improve the benefits.

I worked at Center for Discovery full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some great people both in the entry level positions and also in the management. Depending on the house and the director, you can find some tight knit and supportive teams. Management/Corporate will acknowledge you if you are putting in the effort. Ask for support as directly as possible and you will get it. Great people and great administration, depending on your team.

    Cons

Counselors and diet techs were not being paid a wage they could live on in my last location. Corporate seems oblivious or unsympathetic to this and other needs of the employees. For a company of its size, it offers bad benefits, pay that can't compete with other agencies, and a lack of oversight. It's obvious that this place started off as a small company and has not invested in sound business consultation. A lot of the focus of the business people seems to be appeasing the investors and then investing in gimmicky stuff (apps, interactive websites, etc) while the company's day to day operations reminded me of a mom and pop business. Getting clients into the houses feels like the priority a lot of the time, and the workload for therapists is completely unrealistic. The employees I talked to were confused and concerned that the company focuses so much on growing and doesn't take care of the programs and employees it already has.

    Advice to Management

Focus on taking care of the employees you already have. Bring in business consultants to help the company cut costs and streamline, and invest in your employees. Be aware of your reputation among other providers. Reevaluate the therapist caseload.

I worked at Center for Discovery full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The organization is doing a wonderful service, for the health industry including keeping the locations as "green" as possible. The company treats the employees with compassion.

    Cons

The employees have a very important, sometimes difficult job to do. The salary does not compensate for that at all. I understand that there is room for upward movement. Unfortunately, I could not continue working at CFD long enough to see that because the pay did not cover my minimal cost of living.

    Advice to Management

As far as I could see, there was quality management

I have been working at Center for Discovery full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Provide a high standard of care for clients - Get to work in a multi-family group which is different from other treatment centers I've worked at - Strong recovery-focused community - Employees needs are heard and cared for - Professional development is a priority for management (both in training for clinical work, and working on overall professionalism). - Everyone is on your team; very little politics.

    Cons

    - Can't think of any right now that are specific to this company
