I worked at CenterPoint Energy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

there nothing positive to say about this company other than the benefits are ok, bit other than that theres nothing good about this company

    Cons

do not work in the call center its the worst place in the company to be in, all other departments are better

    Advice to Management

get rid and retire all older management and staff, it's not 1960's can't treat people like machines. also ceos and upper management needs to have better communication with their employees

    Pros

Your benefits starts the day you start. All departments outside of customer service are great!

    Cons

Management shows favoritism, they retaliate, belittle you, very unprofessional, hostile work environment, low moral. Very low pay for what you endure. They truly treat you slaves! Very inconsiderate to those with a family or if you're a single parent. If they need mandatory OT you have to work it. This is the worst customer service department I've ever worked for. They pay you in points for sales, but in MN they pay their CNP Customer Service Employees cash. Management sleeps around with leads and agents. It is truly a job from hell. They don't care about you as an employee, just the numbers!

    Advice to Management

Fire everyone in management team and most of the leads and supervisors! LIVE BY THE CORE VALUES!!!!!

I worked at CenterPoint Energy full-time

    Pros

If you are smart and have zero ambition or drive OR you're not very smart but like to play political games, this is your place.

    Cons

A group of 50-somethings who have been working together for 25+ years are focused on playing games, not managing the business. Good thing they have limited business skills. Unfriendly to outsiders.

    Advice to Management

Hold a lottery and send every other person home. Gas system pressure and electric service? The same. Shareholder value? Increased, Ratepayer value? Exponentially increased.

I worked at CenterPoint Energy (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It has fairly good pay and good health benefit's and 401k.

    Cons

They don't do things by the book. They cut corners. They don't respect the hourly people or the customers.

    Advice to Management

Change your attitude and be more respectful and friendly to the common people.

    Pros

Good core values concept and benefits. CEO is great! Was there for over 22 years...

    Cons

Not very open to diversity in workforce. Senior Management very entrenched in covering for managers and unfair promotion / hiring practices.

    Advice to Management

Better inclusion and get rid if the 'good old boys' and mentality that dominates the company and it's subsidiaries. Need to train leadership to really lead or move them out of company

    Pros

Fair benefits and hard to get fired if you are a senior level person. But it is a steady job and the payroll checks didn't bounce. So they have that going for them.

    Cons

Because the leadership is short of vision, they tend to have reactive management rather than pro-active. For example: If there is a hurricane that hits their region, you can bet that there will be voluntary retirements, then layoffs within 12 months after they fix stuff.

    Kinda sad

    Pros

Can't think of anything at all.

    Cons

This is the most political company I've ever seen. Nothing gets done in a straight forward way. It all depends on who you know and, worse, who you are related to!

    Advice to Management

    Join the 21st century.
