I worked at CenterPoint Energy as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

CenterPoint Energy does very important work all across the board. They are in charge of the electric grid in Houston, gas operations in several states, and services all across the country.

Working in the accounting/finance department was a great experience. Many of the people, including several VPs, are open and willing to chat about what their experience at the company has been.

The project I was assigned felt like it would make an impact on the team I was assigned to.

Management has been very open to company problems and how they are constantly finding ways to resolve these issues.

    Cons

Many of the workforce are older individuals. This is a testament to show that people who work at CenterPoint typically stay for their whole careers. However, as a younger intern coming in, there is a fairly large generational gap and I was often treated as the "baby" of the team. CenterPoint has been working to solve this issue.

    Advice to Management

Management has been very open and engaging to the interns. In my opinion, they are on top of their game and do not need any advice in this area.

I have been working at CenterPoint Energy full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The work environment is very relaxed as long as you get your work done. Everyone in the engineering department is really nice and helpful. Great benefits.

    Cons

Pay is lower than most places. Other than that there really aren't any cons. You can't evacuate for hurricanes because it's all hands on deck.

    Advice to Management

Pay the engineers more if you want them to stay longer than 2 years.

    Cons

    Too many meetings
Safety is jammed in our faces 24/7
Required to submit safety observations every month/management is required to submit safety inspections every month

    Advice to Management

Reduce the amount of meetings to enhance productivity
