I worked at Central Connecticut State University part-time

    Pros

The students are great, hard working and not your typical college students, many are commuters and work full-time outside of school. The Business school was a great department to work for because of management, supervisors, & the work that was being done. My ideas and suggestions were implemented and respected.

    Cons

I worked here part-time through graduate school, earned my Master's degree, and still couldn't find any potential job growth at the university. Did the work of a full-time employee but could never advance at the university because there are ZERO jobs. Many employees who work here have been at the university forever and they are stuck in their old ways and habits, they don't change with the times which is detrimental to this university. They need more employees but can't hire because of budget cuts, etc. Changes take 10 years to happen, slow university.

    Advice to Management

Understand that higher education isn't the same as what it was in 1995. Expand your horizons, think outside the box, understand and familiarize the current trends of higher education, and implement change!

Adjuncts are an afterthought. Not much training and last minute cancellations make it difficult to plan.

    Advice to Management

Adjuncts are vital to the success. They are the front line of the current job market and have the pulse on the future. Think about them in planning and get advice for the future course work as well.
