I worked at Central Maine Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Great benefits, with a decent work/life balance.

    Cons

    Zero training
    Only negative feedback
Sets employees up for failure, not success

    Advice to Management

Even if you're chronically understaffed, designate more knowledgable employees to train new hires; allow them the time and materials to do so. Make sure that new hires get adequate time to complete the ongoing education courses the company requires. Promote people based on maturity and ability to lead, not just ones who successfully hit an arbitrary production metric. Don't be afraid of professionalism - encourage it!

I have been working at Central Maine Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours, good benefits, co-workers are great

    Cons

Current "strategic transformation" makes the future a little murky to plan, no choice time payout any more, no compensation for education

I have been working at Central Maine Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

New leadership has created a data-driven organization that has the potential and the know-how to really go places.

    Cons

It's hard to recruit and we have some jobs that need qualified candidates. There may be a lingering reputation that causes this.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the turnaround.

I have been working at Central Maine Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Pay is good
    Hours are nice
    No Overtime
    Management is supportive
They help grow ideas that lead to improvements.
One of the best places I've worked at.

    Cons

Have to adjust your schedule a lot
    Lots of meetings
    People don't understand their roles
No overtime, so you're basically salary with no ability to get extra money.

    Advice to Management

Better training and pay for improvements to keep staff safe as possible.

I have been working at Central Maine Medical Center full-time

    Pros

32 Hours a week with full time benefits.

    Cons

Lots of call once off orientation. Not a great orientation program for experienced nurses. Asked to leave once cases are done, sometimes not getting 32 hours pay.

    Advice to Management

Pay overtime when you ask people to stay late, even if they are not on call, because the on call people are being paid to stay.

  9. "New management is ruining morale and turnover rates."

    Pros

Most coworkers are great to be around. Teaching school is a plus. Did help pay for school until all spending was frozen.

    Cons

They treat students like employees, most employees don't want to do their jobs. Morale is quite low. Pay is low. They expect employees to do more with less when they already don't have much to work with.

    Advice to Management

Management is horrible. They don't care about employees and are more worried about numbers rather than how to keep their turnover rates down. Staff is overworked and very underpaid.

    excessive staff turnover

    Advice to Management

succession planning. mentoring, cross training, empowering staff to learn new skills
