I worked at Central Manchester University Hospitals full-time

    Pros

Flexible working for some staff. You are free to apply, but this is at managements discretion. How this is allocated across the Trusts varies.

    Cons

Nightmare to park, consider alternative transport. Leadership is fractured and not consistent across Trust. Some Managers have been appointed for brown-nosing, not ability. The Trust promotes an open and honest no-blame reporting culture, the reality is somewhat different.
Office politics plays a big part in the culture of this Trust.

    Advice to Management

Poor communication skills need improving. Stop micro-managing, let qualified staff do their jobs. Too many tiers of management, not enough staff at the point of patient contact. Morale is poor, would you recommend CMFT to friends and family? Frankly no, too large an organisation.

I have been working at Central Manchester University Hospitals full-time

    Pros

    - training opportunities available
    - supportive colleagues in some areas

    Cons

    - not enough staff for the workload, leading to unsafe practice
    - shift times (can be expected to finish at 9.30pm and be back in at 7.30am next morning, no day off between finishing nights and starting days)

    Advice to Management

    - be more supportive to staff
    - enable staff to have more input into their rota

I have been working at Central Manchester University Hospitals full-time

    Pros

Good location near the centre of Manchester
    Has specialised work

    Cons

    Constant increase in workload
Unflexible management that offers no support and keeps increasing the workload
No training provided - you are thrown into the deep end and expect to deliver from day one
All the specialised work is operated by people that have been there for years and it never gets handed over.
    Lack of rotational work
    Understaffed all the time

I worked at Central Manchester University Hospitals full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible working policies work well sometimes, annual leave allocation is generous. Internal professional development opportunities available.

    Cons

Management appointments are sometimes questionable. Agreed job desciptions and person specifications are ignored to appoint individuals, who care more about career advancement than patient care. Key performance figures are massaged to show backlogs in a favourable light prior to inspections. An atmosphere of mistrust and cronyism exists, people only stay for the flexitime.

    Advice to Management

CEO needs ascertain viewpoint from the shopfloor, and rely less on the fawning responses of middle management. Communication failure is cited in feedback every year. Stop carrying out tickbox exercises and promote an inclusive workplace culture.
Would I recommend CMFT as an employer?
The honest answer is only if you cant find another job.

I have been working at Central Manchester University Hospitals full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The staff at the lower pay grades are friendly and supportive for the most part.

    Cons

Management is lacking in many aspects and There Is Little Support For Career progression effectively capping careers at the band 4 level and management seemingly preferring to source management staff externally rather than allowing long serving staff members thè opportunity to advance.

    Advice to Management

If it isn't broken don't fix it...but address the problems that are glaringly obvious.

I have been working at Central Manchester University Hospitals (More than a year)

    Pros

Some nice people who made me feel very welcome. The hospital trust overall looks very impressive and offers some fantastic facililties to patients

    Cons

My section suffered from under staffing and mismanagement leading to low staff moral and high sickness levels. My training has been minimal and stress levels sky high due to back log of work and too few knowledgeable bodies to do the work.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be a serious review of the section and its management before all staff crash and burn out.
