I worked at Central Ohio Transit Authority (More than a year)

    Pros

Top pay is over 26 dollars and hour

    Cons

You have to work like crazy in your first 4 years to get close to the hourly amount. When you first start. that first year schedule is always changing week to week and its hard to plan anything.

    Advice to Management

This is a union job so this is useless field since everything is negotiated every three years.

    Pros

Most of the people are nice and friendly. It's a nice office environment.

    Cons

They are taking on too many projects at one time and not enough people to complete them. It's very overwhelming.
Communication between departments could be better.

I worked at Central Ohio Transit Authority full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good steady pay. The ability to provide a much needed service for people that depend on that service.

    Cons

Administration refused to allow for anyone to submit ideas that could possibly make things better. Complete separation between Upper Management and Union employees. Us vs them is the rule of the day. Huge amount of public funds wasted on projects and operation proceedures that are not performing. Buses are not maintained properly as per federal guidelines. Lower level Management exists in an impossible environment due to lack of upper Management support or guidance.

    Advice to Management

Install an immediate change in policy to allow all voices and ideas to be heard and considered without the threat of loosing your position or job. Learn to value the imput of ALL Employees to make COTA a great place to work once again.

I worked at Central Ohio Transit Authority full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice offices and work environment. The employees in the administrative offices are nice and have many years of experience. Being able to use your ID as a bus pass is a nice benefit. I used to park at the bus garage for free and bus into downtown. It also helped connect me to passenger and operators.

    Cons

There is a separation between administrative staff and bus operators and technicians. There is still an "us vs. them" culture even this many years after the strike.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time at the bus garages. Take time to just sit in the day room and talk to drivers beyond the occasional town hall style events. Go to them.

I worked at Central Ohio Transit Authority full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The pay, benefits and bonuses are great. Pretty small company so everyone knows each other and everyone* seems pretty nice

    Cons

    * New IT management spends their entire day examining and critiquing your every move. As soon as they hire a new technical analyst, they're out the door within a month. It's very sad. The CEO, Curtis Stitt is a very nice man but I think he's clueless when it comes to his IT department.

    Advice to Management

Take some management courses and focus on the IT department as a whole.
