I have been working at Central Transport full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Plenty of work in the city and you get a few hours working dock. If your a skilled driver then you make it easier on yourself dropping off and picking up freight. Supervisor and manager are good at what they do and you can call them at anytime for assistance. New trucks and getting more new trailers. Also good place to learn and get your driving experience. Home daily off weekends, Saturday’s volunteer work.

    Cons

Wish I got paid by experience but they start new drivers at the same pay rate. Forklifts are beat up and not always functioning correct(some not all). Also wish we got paid per stop and for each pallet we pick up. Gotta work at least 9 to 10 hrs a day for a nice paycheck. A terminal with more space would help a lot.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your drivers and they’ll take care of you.

I worked at Central Transport full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Home nightly? 7-8pm is too late to say daily lol Newer trucks?

    Cons

Management. Payroll always messing up hours/pay. Would have to pray they had my hours correct from 2 weeks ago if I had extra things to buy the current week. The equipment at my terminal was absolutely terrible. Your manager has to ask permission for EVERYTHING. You can’t just stay after if the work is even needed. Your manager has to email someone and ASK TO EXTEND YOUR DOCK TIME! It is really a joke. The customers...

    Advice to Management

I would say please but I really don’t care. I am just making this review for people who are thinking about going to this company. Keep your smaller terminals maintained and stop being cheap with them. Fix the things that keep your business going and fix it right. Get rid of your careless managers that make the employees sit at the edge of their bed in the morning debating on calling off or going in because the job is...

We appreciate your detailed review. We have purchased more than $250M worth of tractors/trailers in the past two years, with our average tractor age being less than 2 years. We are committed to maintaining this high level of quality. We admit the docks have been busier lately, ...

I have been working at Central Transport full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

No shortage of work, even in the slow seasons. You can work as much as you like, even volunteer for Saturday line runs. Good people all around you. General team spirit.

    Cons

Processes and methods are archaic with every minuscule issue requiring management or corporate intervention. One small problem can ruin your whole day. Barebones approach to maintenance and equipment. Drivers are also dock workers.

    Advice to Management

Mentor more and yell less. Employees may make childish errors at times, but they are not your children. Corporate needs to back out of micromanaging the terminals.

I worked at Central Transport full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

    Good pay and new trucks.

    Cons

They change policies about every month, so there is never any consistency. Drivers have to unload their own trailers and the dock manager can make you work other trailers that aren't yours whenever they feel like it. Mandatory Saturday and Sunday dock shifts that are announced 1 or 2 days beforehand. Management across the board is terrible. The open dock makes for cold days working 8-12 hour dock shifts in the winter....

    Pros

Good pay, some decent managers that try to help, could be a good job for eager people willing to deal with dispatchers.

    Cons

Inferior medical benefits, minimal help on dock, unorganized management.

    Advice to Management

Understand how monotonous it truly is for the driver.know how long it really takes to drive a 30 minutes in a big truck versus a car.

I have been working at Central Transport full-time

    Pros

Nothing off the top of my head. Maybe, leniency on accidents and/or damage. You are able to get away with a lot just due to the fact management is clueless.

    Cons

Work like a dog for hours on end. You just eat, sleep, and work. No overtime pay. Ridiculous and pricey health insurance. Dead end job.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to cut costs by hiring 19 year olds. Having a "kid" control you from Detroit makes for a miserable job. Keep employees informed on ALL topics. Stop putting your employees in danger with horrible working conditions.

    I worked at Central Transport

    Pros

Most of the employees i worked with were really great people. Other than that there is nothing positive to say about this P O S company.

    Cons

The treat you like dirt and nothing you do is ever fast enough or good enough, They Hire terminal managers who for the most part have no business doing that job. Most of the terminal managers i dealt with had no people skills and thought that you manage people by threatening and trying to intimidate them. This is the only company in all my 23 yrs as a driver that i was ever told that if i was concerned with dot regulations...
