I have been working at Central Transport full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Overall, I enjoy my time here. While there are some things that I wish to see changed (like described below), I like to make the most of the opportunities given to me. For one thing, the pay is A1 for an entry level IT job. Nowhere else will you find a level 1 helpdesk technician getting paid $18/hour. The other employees are also great. Made friends fast, and for the most part are all knowledgeable about their field. Management is not as bad as some people would like to say, though there are always some areas where things can be improved. However, this is business and that's how things work. You learn, adapt, and grow because of it.

    Cons

Policies and Procedures can sometimes be outdated
Communication from the top down can be lacking

    Advice to Management

I gave this company a 4/5 rating based upon MY experiences in the IT department. I cannot speak to the drivers or GO workers, or anyone else for that matter. There may still be some things to look in to out in the field as we take calls constantly from disgruntled terminal workers.

    Pros

Home nightly? 7-8pm is too late to say daily lol
    Newer trucks?

    Cons

    Management.
Payroll always messing up hours/pay. Would have to pray they had my hours correct from 2 weeks ago if I had extra things to buy the current week.
The equipment at my terminal was absolutely terrible.
Your manager has to ask permission for EVERYTHING. You can’t just stay after if the work is even needed. Your manager has to email someone and ASK TO EXTEND YOUR DOCK TIME! It is really a joke.
The customers almost everywhere hate Central Transport. I would get made fun of quite a bit and had the LTL competition asking me if I wanted to come over to their side.
1 day of vacation accrued after every 8 weeks. But not until after your 90 days.
Insurance is terrible. 72 a week for single mid tier insurance a week.
No overtime pay until after 55 hours. Which you will never get to. And if you do, it won’t be much more than a couple hours.
If you manager forgets to fix a pay exception for the handheld ruining your hours, you won’t see it for 3 weeks.
The handheld is trash. Always freezing and crashing. Very old technology. My potato can compute better. If your hours are off on this you must have proof and tell your manager or you will not be paid for it at all.
I did not receive nor was I asked if i wanted uniforms after my 90 days.
Managers will put you out on the road with the worst trailers ever and basically tell you to suck it up. If you refuse it you will have to transfer it to a better one (if there even is one) I’m actually laughing while writing this because it sounds so bad but I am being completely honest.
Co-workers will finish their freight and leave and receive no discipline. While the rest of the guys will stay to finish - 7-8 pm sometimes later.
I can go on and on about this. But please stay away from the Rockford or Hillside terminal.

    Advice to Management

I would say please but I really don’t care. I am just making this review for people who are thinking about going to this company. Keep your smaller terminals maintained and stop being cheap with them. Fix the things that keep your business going and fix it right. Get rid of your careless managers that make the employees sit at the edge of their bed in the morning debating on calling off or going in because the job is actually that bad.

I have been working at Central Transport full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Requires less than 1 yr experience to get hired. You will start your day no later than 8:30 and end your day typically no later than 6:30. Consistant route. Decent trucks.Good work/home balance.

    Cons

The terminal is in terrible condition. Most of the trailers are in terrible condition. Only 1 week of vacation/ if you take off after that, you don’t get paid. You have to work the dock once your day is done(Not that bad)

    Advice to Management

    1.Give more vacation/sick days
    2. Invest money into trucks/terminal
    3. Hire dock workers to help off load trailers at the end of the day
    4. Make sure that management isn’t manipulating employees to do more than possible.
