I have been working at Central Transport full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Good money, Brand new tractors

    Cons

Home life, horrible trailers, long hours, overworked, well below average benefits

    Advice to Management

Invest in new trailers. I've been driving for 19 years, and have never seen a company operating so many old, dilapidated trailers as this company. Hire some more drivers and get more adequate dock space before trying to expand. Last but not least, get some real benefits for your employees. This is by far the worst insurance I've ever had at any trucking company I've worked for.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We continue to make significant investments in equipment, buying more than 3,000 new trailers in the past two years - as well as continued tractor purchases. We are sorry to read of your disappoint in the Blue Cross insurance ...

I have been working at Central Transport full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Awesome co-workers Great pay Family atmosphere (at my terminal, anyway) Night dispatchers are fantastic! (I've never said that before!)

    Cons

Bad equipment Bad maintenance Lack of supplies

    Advice to Management

Put some money into your equipment. Some trucks are slow as molasses (61 mph), and others run 70+. Standardize at 70. Less fatigue, lower risk.

I have been working at Central Transport full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good place to get some experience for a newer driver. Money is pretty good.

    Cons

health care packages are a joke for my family and eat way too much out of my weekly check. Some trucks can go 62 while others can go 68. It takes a special kind of patience to go 62 all the way to Ohio. Speaking of patience...the hand held that we use for work is beyond frustrating to use at times.

I worked at Central Transport full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Decent pay. Easy work for the most part. Co workers were cool, we would stick together because we were all in the same boat.

    Cons

No direct deposit. Broken equipment, dont take care of brand new trucks (they have never been washed). Will steal money from you if you leave (Made me pay back PTO). No reward for doing a good job, only punishment if you make a mistake. Policies change every couple weeks. This company does not care about their employees. Charge you $500 if you accidentally break one of their refurbished handheld scanners. I could keep...

    Advice to Management

Start taking care of your equipment and treat your employees better. They work hard and deserve better. I know this is a waste of breath because you will never change as a company but glassdoor asked the question so I answered.

I worked at Central Transport full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

With the high turnover in the seniority ranks, if you hang in there, you will be guaranteed a full-time spot when the guy ahead of you, leaves. You do get yearly raises but there is a cap.

    Cons

Initially when hired, your spot may not always have enough work for full time hours. You are required to work swiftly and hard. Maxing out dock hours is the only way to increase your week's pay. Check the tractors and trailers and get them fixed at the shop, break-downs cost you lost dock time and mostly it's preventable.

    Advice to Management

We are all in this together and don't forget that your drivers are working their tails off and the road drivers are horribly sleep deprived! It's very hard to keep the talented employees with great work ethics and those who actually care about the job, the company equipment and Central Transport itself! There has to be some kind of arrangement to reward outstanding service that is proven to help the company earn more...

I have been working at Central Transport full-time for more than a year

    Pros

ONLY due to the slow job market they have job openings.

    Cons

ONLY due to the slow job market one has to endure such a company. They went to a night time road operation to hide their equipment issues. The trucks and trailers are absolutely the worst i've seen or encountered in 16 years of driving. High mileage tractors. Million mile trucks are very common. They did buy some new trucks. New trucks same old Central. The do not care about their drivers one iota. They are constantly...
