I have been working at Central Transport full-time

    Pros

$1200-$1300/wk on average for night drivers. The work is really easy. You make your nightly run and then work the dock for a few hours after you return. You get paid more for working the dock than the dock workers. They currently have a hiring bonus.

    Cons

You are paid per run and it depends where you have to drive to. You have an eta that they expect you to stick to. Not much room for advancement. I have been an employee for less than 2 years and make practically the same pay as an employee that has worked for the company for 14 years. Benefits sucks. Newer employees get one paid day off after working for two months but after your 90 day probationary period. If you are...

I have been working at Central Transport full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

No shortage of work, even in the slow seasons. You can work as much as you like, even volunteer for Saturday line runs. Good people all around you. General team spirit.

    Cons

Processes and methods are archaic with every minuscule issue requiring management or corporate intervention. One small problem can ruin your whole day. Barebones approach to maintenance and equipment. Drivers are also dock workers.

    Advice to Management

Mentor more and yell less. Employees may make childish errors at times, but they are not your children. Corporate needs to back out of micromanaging the terminals.

I worked at Central Transport part-time

      Pros

Don't let management ruin this company hire competitive supervisors, hire supervisors they don't do favoritism so they can treat everybody equal this company will run smooth.

      Cons

Supervisors feel like they are untouchable, a good supervisor will treat everybody equal, making someone full time is not because you like the worker saddly this central does that, part times don't get holidays pay no vacation paid, no races after six months of work, you can work for this central 1 year 2 years an they will never ask you if you want to became full time, they will hire a non experience dock worker the...

I worked at Central Transport full-time for more than 6 years

      Pros

      Really none to speak of.

      Cons

Absolute disgusting working conditions. Terminals are falling apart and they do not repair anything. They are not only disgusting but also are In violation of osha requirements. They will fly you out to Michigan and spin very detailed stories of how they are changing the company , so on and so on.... it is all a very calculated and well articulated act to sell you on central. Once you get to your terminal, forget it......

I have been working at Central Transport full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

You will definitely get your hours. The company has taken on some large contracts, and there is no shortage of work. Also, despite my admittedly negative summary of the "cons" at this company, I will admit that we have started to see positive changes recently. Central recently switched the insurance they offer from Cherokee (horrible coverage, hard to find hcp's that would accept it) to Blue Cross. They bought new trailers...

      Cons

I would like to start by saying that I've seen an incredible amount of turnover here at Central - management included. I've seen almost the entire staff turn over 3 times in the last 3 years, and we've been through 4 terminal managers in the last 3 years. Whether or not this is something specific to my area, I don't know - but I can tell you it speaks volumes about the way this company is run. Up until recently, the compensation...

      Advice to Management

You should invest more into your equipment and employees. Your best workers are either going to move up or move on. There needs to be a more positive work culture here - Central has the potential to be one of the best carriers out there, and to be a place people are excited to come to work. Take surveys, listen to feedback. Us guys in the field are the ones who are acquainted with our customers, our communities, and Central's...

I worked at Central Transport full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Paid weekly. But they are three weeks behind. Able to move to different locations. But you have to sign a contract.

      Cons

This company is the equivalent of unprofessional. Where do I start? The location I worked at was so understaff. They didn't have dock workers so the drivers and a TOTAL of 3 in office staff had to unload the trucks. This wouldn't be a problem if they didn't force the drivers to punch out after 90 minutes. This didn't matter if the trucks were done being unloaded or not. The drivers...

I have been working at Central Transport

      Pros

It's a great place to start if you have no experience, starting rate is not bad

      Cons

Only 5 day vacation, wouldn't increase No over time paid, not even for a dock workers. You have to paid your own health insurance, and is a terrible one. No sick days or personal days. No way to get better positions more than what you got at the beginning. If you are not a city driver you won't make money here.

      Advice to Management

Get new CEO, remove all your management people, fire your HR staff and all office people, get cameras at work site, I know you have it mostly please fire the people who is watching over and see what happens. If you talk about benefits please give it, do not change for it. Forget about 82 or 92 cubes just make clean moves with your freight. Contact me I will give you more paid advices as a worker who is about to quit

I worked at Central Transport full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Non managers are good people. From supervisors on down, including drivers, dock workers, dispatcher, etc. All good people. The General Office and Terminal Managers they have a leash on are the issues.

      Cons

Terrible management. Terrible decision making. Terrible to their drivers. Terrible to their dock workers. If you work for CT you can forget about having a life outside of work. Their entire philosophy revolves around putting as much time in as possible. If you're a dock worker you will work 55-60 hours and 6 days a week. If you're a driver you will spend hours waiting for your...
