I worked at Central Washington University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are lots of great people who work at CWU. My favorite part of my job there was the close-knit community.

    Cons

The pay is abysmal unless you're the president, a VP or a provost--and I was in a fairly prestigious position with over a decade of experience. It's one of the only decent places to work in Ellensburg, where the cost of living is too high. So they take advantage of employees, knowing full well there aren't any other options in town. I addition, for about 3 of the 4 years I worked there, I and the rest of my team had to endure daily abuse by a totally unstable, dishonest boss. Our complaints went ignored for years. It was a truly toxic environment until she left. After she was gone it improved, but not much.

    Advice to Management

Where do I start? Pay your people what they're worth, listen when employees tell you about problems.

    Pros

Diverse and growing institution. Great academic programs and student life is vibrant.

    Cons

Lack of resources in various locations makes it difficult for students to receive same opportunity/academic experience for the same university price.

I worked at Central Washington University part-time

    Pros

They work around your school schedule well and it is easy to find any replacement that you need. Super easy job with very short shifts.

    Cons

The management is completely immature and don't run the place well at all. With the amount of food given out by all of the employees, I wonder how they make any money.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to real manage the place instead of trying to act like everyone is a child and that you are better than us. I am sorry that you are upset I am pursuing my dreams while you manage a dining hall.

    Pros

Great place to work! Small town setting with an international staff and faculty. Each manager I have had the privilege of working under has nurtured my career and recognized my potential for growth.

    Cons

In the winter, Snoqualmie Pass may be closed making it difficult to get to shopping or alpointments in Seattle.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

I worked at Central Washington University full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I was hired by Central Washington University as a graphic design intern through their publicity center. The staff is unbelievable and eased me into the process with confidence. The staff is friendly, and laid back enough to make everyone feel comfortable. Central is a warm environment, and welcomes everyone. The hours were great, 9-5 with a :30 minute lunch, and two 15 minute breaks.

    Cons

The only downside would be the pay, and thats primarily because I was hired as an intern.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. My experience with the publicity center was nothing short of wonderful. I gained a handful of new knowledge, and wouldn't change a thing.

because it's part of "student life," it doesn't last forever and undergrad studies will go by too quickly
