I have been working at Centrica full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Security of job role. Constant flow of Service and Maintenance Contracts provides continual workload.

    Cons

For lower level employees, Often deal with repetitive mundane tasks on severely out of date and slow systems.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time nurturing young staff. Lack of attention has led to high turnover of talent in recent years.

I have been working at Centrica full-time

    Pros

Great place to do little work and get paid for doing next to nothing. Explains why BG prices are not very competitive.

    Cons

Management does underdstand what they want.
Management spends more time "working from home" than actually working in the office.
Company claims to have training budget but are very relucant to send people on training courses.
Project always seems to get put on the shelve and never used again.

    Advice to Management

    Do some work .
Do some reasearch and find out exactly what you want.
    Provide training.
Most importantly try being in the office.

I have been working at Centrica full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very professional, supportive organisation who take the welfare of their employees seriously. There is also a lot of information available to employees on what is going on within the business.

    Cons

You are a number! Over 30,000 employees, so you're just a number. Managers have no discretion. You cannot be rewarded on individual merit. Invariably the computer says no and you get the sense that HR make the rules up as they go along trying to squeeze every employee into "a grade"

    Advice to Management

Allow managers to reward employees based on merit. A significant number of places where I have worked previously do and they have a low attrition rate. We lose good staff as their is no flexibility despite one of Centrica's core values being agility!

I have been working at Centrica full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good flexible benefits and decent prospects to move roles.

    Cons

Constant restructuring and redundancies. Lack of people development in recent years with little to no learning opportunities.

    Advice to Management

ENPS is just as important as TNPS - Salaries are getting less and less competitive with the marketplace and good, experienced people are leaving to get much better packages elsewhere.
