I worked at Centrica full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great perks, great job share and job experience rotations.

    Cons

Expect high levels of academic prowess, usually gained from University education. For those without University graduations but intellectually strong and more career experience you will get frustrated.

    Advice to Management

Trust your staff with the skills.

    Pros

Big company so got to do some really interesting site visits.

    Cons

Was so bored, not given very much to do, limited direction and responsibility. Despite trying to keep myself busy all the time I started my days wishing for them to end. The office is also in a very inconvenient location, and people generally very bland.

    Advice to Management

    Improve.

I worked at Centrica (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent company, with great benefits scheme, excellent team building and extra clubs and sports days etc to get involved with, face to face organisation, plenty of opportunity for training.

    Cons

Some political struggles between departments. Can be hard to get people all in the same roomk for meetings etc due to the nature and diversity of the organisation

    Advice to Management

More man management, more lines of reporting however apart from that, an excellent place to work. Unfortunately my time with the organisation was brought to a sudden hault due to various unhealthy run ins with my manager who actually made life very difficult and stressful for everyone in my department. Very unfortunate because everything else was excellent

    Pros

    Great Work-life balance
Good name to have on CV with a Market leader
    Genuine people-focussed management culture

    Cons

Centrica, like all the Big 6 energy firms take a slating in the press for profiteering at their customer's expense. the question the British public need to ask is why aren't they more profitable?

The business is completely over-staffed with two or three people doing in many cases, the same role. Thankfully the new CEO is working hard to reduce this bloated corporate ship. There are a lot of people hanging on for their pension or long service benefits and it shows.

In major need of a shake -up!

    Advice to Management

Raise your hiring standards. Millions of British gas customers have a right to expect better.

I worked at Centrica full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic team, the best that I've worked with, and all senior colleagues echo this view. Strong methodology which is as robust as any Big 4 firm, coupled with real understanding of business issues.

    Cons

Appears pedantic at times, but this results in a great product. Managing one's reputation and image are important, however overdoing this also has downsides for how one's perceived by colleagues.

    Advice to Management

Keep recruiting to the same standard you have done in the past. Diversification of skills may very well set us apart even further as a world class team.
