I have been working at Cerner full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I've been working at Cerner almost 2 years and have loved it. The work in health care is inspiring, and the amount of time and energy they put into developing associates is fantastic. Not only do you have amazing career opportunities and room for growth, but there also benefits like a gym, doctors office, pharmacy, and cafeteria all at work.

    Cons

The work-life balance can be a little stressful at times, but as long as communicated with your manager, it's definitely manageable!

    Advice to Management

Make sure you take time to develop your associates and really make sure they know you want to see them succeed.

I have been working at Cerner as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good Community - Everyone is very friendly and supportive

The Work - At least in my department, the work is challenging yet worthwhile

    Cons

The Hours - While I am forced to not work overtime, it is regular that other here work 60 hour weeks to maintain their projects and meet deadlines for the higher-ups.

The Pay - For the amount of work, it just doesn't match up properly.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing!

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Make an effort to identify and encourage all associates strengths and offer opportunities to improve weaknesses. Nothing beats regular, open and honest 1 on 1s.

I have been working at Cerner full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits! From health insurance to stock options as well as gym - overall it's a slam dunk for a young professional.

    Cons

Starting pay is below the industry standard in some role. Promotions do not always come as you earn them. Sometimes there is some seniority involved.

    Advice to Management

Need to start looking at salaries to match industry standards.

    Pros

Travel perks, stock options, competitive wage, and strong associate support structure.

    Cons

Travel , long hours, and work-life balance

    Advice to Management

Always work to be more involved with your associates. As a big company, you can start to feel like a number if you don't have a good manager.

    Pros

Atmosphere is great. People you work with are very nice. Managers are flexible to a certain extent. Benefits are awesome.

    Cons

Unbalanced work load. Too much ambiguity. Not enough knowledge transfers. Not enough time to do some extra training around different departmental areas.

    Advice to Management

More flexible working hour shift like working from home

I have been working at Cerner full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very good benefits on top of working with a lot of really smart people. The company has a lot of different opportunities as well, which means that a wide variety of skills can be learned. There are a lot of opportunities to network as well.

    Cons

It seems like professional growth and development is more about what would be good for Cerner and less about what would be good for their employees. Most of the management is people who would have been at Cerner a while, not necessarily who would be a good manager. This causes some managers to not be able to effectively manage people and leads to high attrition rates. Some teams can feel cliche-ish at times, which is bad for moral as well.

    Advice to Management

Senior management shouldn't play favorites. Being acknowledged for your work shouldn't be biased and neither should opportunities for advancement.
