    Pros

Great Company to work for. Benefits started to degrade pretty significantly after the acquisition of Siemens.

    Cons

This is not a 40 hour a week job, not even for part time associates.

    Advice to Management

Work to make the employee one of your focal points again. Happy employees lead to better results.

I worked at Cerner as an intern

    Pros

Flexible work schedule even for interns. Great pay. Potential to work with new technologies. Great mentors and good coworkers. Loved the entire experience.

    Cons

You will be expected to adapt to an ENORMOUS code base and contribute in the short time that you are hired there. Can be hard to get up to speed quickly.

    Advice to Management

I think it's hard to give advice on what to do with the intern program. It's good as it is, but maybe having smaller tasks that don't require so much familiarization with a huge code base. That way they could contribute more.

I have been working at Cerner full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Largest private employer in Kansas City

    Many perks

    Great health insurance and benefits
Big focus on employee health and wellness

Incredible people - young and vibrant culture

    Large network of talented individuals

Impactful work and great opportunities for young and aspiring associates

Very fast paced and growing company who will continue to gain business

If you work hard you will be compensated well

    Cons

Company has grown very quickly and has had some growing pains along the way

Still tries to do things like a small company even though we are 23k+

It can be hard to navigate internal career growth

Sometimes feel overworked and under appreciated

A lot of change due to growth and marketplace. So if change bothers you then this would be a con

Complex business that is not always explained very well to internal associates

    Advice to Management

Help develop your associates and advance them to the next level. Give more opportunities to young talent as opposed to looking outside the company.

Benefits are great, tons of young people which makes for a fun work environment.

    Cons

Long hours some weeks, but it isn't anything that young recent college grads shouldn't be willing to work.

    keep up the good work.

I worked at Cerner full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The time and money is a ration anyone would appreciate. They also have great compensation packages where they take care of hotel stay, gas and more.

    Cons

Not much room to get promoted although, with more training and networking there are definite possibilities. The pay can get negotiated to a lower amount depending on the project.

    Advice to Management

    Learn more about the employees

I have been working at Cerner full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity for advancement for a hard worker. Great benefits, PTO policy is very good, pay is good.
If you live in KC, MO you have nice gym, daycare, Cerner's own health clinic, group functions & collaboration with peers.

    Cons

Tough to stay in the loop unless you work in KC. Staff is very young in general. Mostly new college grads with no real life experience.
Disparate teams often do not connect with each other & are sometimes adversarial.
Sales does not tie into what is ACTUALLY deliverable.

    Advice to Management

Stop focusing on buzzwords & the big picture diagrams and dig into the weeds a little.
Consider focusing a little less on recruiting the new grads & look for more experienced staff.

I have been working at Cerner full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

One of the top contenders in healthcare IT, Cerner is at its core an IT company, so developers are highly valued here and the culture is oriented around them.

Compensation is low compared with national average, but don't let that trick you! The cost of living in Kansas City is appropriately low so you can live more than comfortably on the salary.

Work/life balance for my team is great.

    Benefits are decent enough.

The people are competent and the projects can be interesting to work on, though you may end up with great and not-so-great projects.

    Cons

Some of the technology is outdated, and sometimes people are underutilized. There's a fair share of bureaucracy, but that's expected at such a big company.

Kansas City is really not much of a city, so if you're a city person, consider this.

    Advice to Management

Better utilize some of your employees.

    Pros

Pros include flexibility, benefits, as well as opportunity. There are many places within Cerner where one can find their niche.

    Cons

The only con I can give is that there is an exceptional workload, however this shows its benefit over time,

    Advice to Management

Give more tasks and ensure your time is available to those reporting to you.
