I have been working at Chalk & Vermilion Fine Arts full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company is also Martin Lawrence Fine Art. The gallery offers some good art so it's a nice environment. Corporate is outdated, not computer savvy but all very nice, good people trying to earn a living.

    Cons

Poor salary. Not good at communicating or encouraging employees. I think the David Rogath feeds off the fear and desperation of those who need to be employed. He doesn't care about people and we are all tools for him to use.

    Advice to Management

Maybe shut your doors. You don't have a trustworthy reputation and your workplace is a horror show.

I have been working at Chalk & Vermilion Fine Arts (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nothing, it's a poorly run company

    Cons

Senior management is the worst. Pay structure and benefits way below average

    Advice to Management

    Change

    Pros

Great location and people (85% of them anyways).
Lunch is provided for on Fridays.

    Cons

    Highly deceptive business practices.
Extremely poor communication and structural organization.
Chalk is a stepping stone, be careful not to get pigeonholed there.

    Advice to Management

Fix the roof that has been leaking for the last couple of years- the mold is rampant, and affecting your employees’ health.

    Pros

The hours were pretty good. It is a beautiful office to work in with plenty of expensive and priceless art on the walls.

    Cons

Not alot of room to grow within the company. The corporate office is very small but everyone was very friendly and worked well together.

    Advice to Management

work on giving the employees a little better benefits package. It is too expensive to maintain if you have a family.

    Pros

They pay you more than the average NYC gallery.

    Cons

The morale is low, and only getting lower as more and more great employees are being dropped or leaving due to undesirable benefits, mediocre pay and a completely aloof management team that refuses to change it's practices and promote a positive work environment.

    Advice to Management

I recommend nurturing employees - listening to their concerns and changing some of the management staff.
