I worked at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Loved the work, the patients and most of the coworkers. Pay was ok and benefits provided (though not great, better than nothing.)

    Cons

Management was cut throats and cliquey and only out for themselves. Not there for their employees when needed. Lots of backstabbing. Will make up reasons to let you go.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate and stand up for your employees.

I worked at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (Less than a year)

    Pros

I interned here for the HIM department and it was a great experience. Everyone was extremely helpful and supportive. The organization is very close-knit and really values its employees. There are many educational opportunities available for management and there are many activities that encourage staff bonding!

    Cons

I did not come across any cons as an intern.

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Fast-paced, shift is over quickly.

    Cons

EXTREMELY stressful. Some employees resort to screaming w/o any cause or apology. Training is not sufficient especially for someone not familiar with hospital language or employee positions/ job requirement.

    Advice to Management

There seems to be quite a bit of movement within union positions. Also high turnover within the facility. Therefore management is probably aware of the issues that are faced.

I worked at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Hospital is now pursuing ANCC Magnet status. Small town atmosphere. Facility has been improving steadily. Good place to live. Now affiliated with University of Vermont.

    Cons

Poor management practices. Some unit nursing directors promoted via cronyism, not achievements. Hospital has not typically respected nurses with baccalaureate degrees. A lot of old school "doctor's handmaiden" nonsense.

    Advice to Management

Begin considering promotion of nurses who have career accomplishments, not just those who are related to current and former management. Get rid of some of those unqualified unit directors.

I worked at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Professionalism and willingness to help.

    Cons

As with any position it has ups and downs in a hospital setting. You have to deal with a lot of different personalities and that can get frustrating.
