I have been working at Changi Airport full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good stepping step to other companies as it trains you to be perfectionist Assuming you are in the right department, your colleagues will be supportive of your role

    Cons

Although Changi Airport marks itself as one of the most desirable company, one must be aware of the realities. In summary, unless you are passionate about giving a good service (where salary is no issue), then go for this company. Else, look at the cons: 1) Increment - One of the most pathetic increments. Average of 2-4%. Its barely even able to meet inflation. 2) Low monthly pay, but pays out higher bonus -... The reason why I marked this as a con is when leaving the company, many employers look at base salary. And also, people may have heard the company pays 4-6 months of bonus. True, but when your base salary is low, the annual package works out to be normal. I can tell everyone with a straight face that a civil servant who has the same years of experience and the same number of promotion (e.g. promoted twice in a civil service, as comapred to promoted twice in Changi Airport) will have a much higher pay. 3) Sexy initiatives and projects are almost the basis of promotion - CAG is operating an airport. Many people work hard, fighting fire, just to make sure the airports runs as per normal. So when an employee is blogged down with fighting fire, how is he/she able to have the bandwidth to handle new and sexy initiatives? This leads me to the next point... 4) Slow job progression - Average promotion rate is 3 years. You can possibly get promoted in 2 years if you have lots of projects (and managed to succeed in implementing it), or you are aggressive in pushing your agenda/projects. Else, its 3-years mate. 4) Most department have long working hours. It is understandable when you are paid above average to work longer hours for the same role. But seriously, for the amount we are paid (see point 2), coupled with low increment and slow progression, in no time Changi Airport is not a competitive employer.

    Advice to Management

Please look at your appraisal and promotion policy. CAG is no doubt an attractive company when it comes to a starting position. But as one progresses, it seriously loses out. Being paid less than civil service for the time and effort, in no time people will head over to other companies. In 10-15 years, Changi Airport may have an issue of succession for the middle management.

I have been working at Changi Airport full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Quite vibrant. Not too bad bonus.

    Cons

Airport operations work is insane and can be inhumane. Staff are always expected to be down even on shift hours. No respect for worklife balance at all. Very political and lots of red tape Central to values of company is integrity but it doesn't happen

    Advice to Management

Make decisions and not blame staff for not executing when snr management can't make decisions Snr management especially in airport operations are very weak and not strategic. Very old school and unable to be innovative Too much red tape and snr mgmt is political
