I have been working at Charles River Laboratories (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent benefits, lots of overtime pay, interesting work. There are a lot of really nice people who work here, and its a great place to learn and develop.

    Cons

Understaffed, disconnect between "front-line" employees and corporate. Lack of experienced supervisors, most of the people who work here are in their early twenties.

    Advice to Management

Focus on bringing in talented, experienced individuals into supervisor positions. Promote based on quality of work, not length of time at the company.

I have been working at Charles River Laboratories full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

An opportunity to get into the biomedical research field and explore other options.

    Cons

Management is extremely "shady". If you report any problems about another employee...it will get back to them... Which causes an very uncomfortable situation. African American employees are treated differently when it comes to small mistakes. There is a lot of racial profiling and stereotyping. Management often overlooks any issues with job performance of their "favorite" employees. The management will talk to you any kind of way, blame you for things that are out of your control and then ask you to come in on your off day. These people are so messy, at the end of the day you can't even be too upset with them because they are simply ignorant and they don't know any better. Very sad situation.

    Advice to Management

Get it together. Just because you don't really like your job, don't make it hard and miserable for new people who still have enthusiasm and drive for what they do. Stop dimming a person's light just because they don't smile in your face and pretend to be your friend. If you are unhappy with what you do, simply leave and let someone else have a chance to make the workplace better and improve its culture and morale

I have been working at Charles River Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The hours and flexibility is one of the only thing keeping me at this job. Also my department has many great people to be around.

    Cons

The base salary and yearly raises are very low and unacceptable for students trying to get out of debt and live on their own.

    Advice to Management

Retain good employees by giving them raises they deserve and get rid of the non team players. Most of the people who have left my department have left due to the low pay and zero recognition for their work.

I have been working at Charles River Laboratories (Less than a year)

    Pros

This position will be responsible for helping the company to evaluate and manage new regulatory requirements and customer expectations on chemical ingredients and contaminants. Assessing the impact of these on food safety and in supporting development and execution of related standards and policies.
Be productive and be responsible even if I am working from home.
    Good management.
    My co-workers are nice.
I've seen a lot of people be able to move up the ranks. Some people say there's nowhere to go, but I've seen persistence pay off. I do believe that they're interested in quality and not just making another buck.

    Cons

Most of the jobs can be pretty routine. There can be something nice about that, but it can get old. That the nature of the business working on the lab bench.
    Poor ranking system.

    Advice to Management

Green card translates to financial security for many, as it would confirm permanent residency in addition to work permit for the employee and family. I hope the management could offer more felxible plan for their employees to obtain green card.
