I have been working at Charles River Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Charles River Laboratories offer a strong benefit package (including medical, 401K match and perks). Direct supervisors are good to work for.

    Cons

Overall employee moral can be low at times, negatively often times breeds negatively. Can be difficult to move up the ladder.

I worked at Charles River Laboratories full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nothing positive from my perspective except some friends I made there.

    Cons

The management team is like a group of school yard bullies. If you are not in their clique you are not going to go anywhere.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the manager's who have worked there for 25+ years. They have no leadership and no experience since they all grew up from taking care of animals and now treat their employees the same.

I have been working at Charles River Laboratories full-time

    Pros

They are really starting to push for a work/life balance. Offered flex schedules, good PTO, good people to work with, challenging work and room for growth. They encourage you to apply within the company to try new departments if you so wish.

    Cons

None that I can think of since they are working hard to keep employees happy right now

I worked at Charles River Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits, ability to move around the company, salary is about average for the industry

    Cons

Terrible culture - Nepotism, disconnect between corporate and the other sites, lack of professionalism by management (cursing, rumors of affairs/hook-ups, management openly trashing other employees, including corporate leaders). I've overheard managers complain to their own employees about their other employees.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting people to positions of management simply because they're the only ones that stuck around long enough. Too many managers seem to lack the interpersonal skills needed to effectively lead people

    Pros

I really enjoyed my time at this company (management and employees).

    Cons

I do not like the duties of the Assistant Animal Caretaker position (changing cages of researchers). It is very simple and repetitive.

I have been working at Charles River Laboratories full-time

    Pros

I've worked at two different sites with CR and they were wildly different experiences. It really makes a difference where you are.

    Cons

Low pay and they really couldn't care less about their employees.
Promotion from within often leads to terrible managers.
