    Pros

Great place to gain experience, but best to move on to somewhere that will treat you better in the long run

    Cons

Not a great place to work if you have a life outside of work. Be aware that you can consistently go above and beyond what is required but never get so much a a thank you for your hard work. You can do a thousand things right and make one mistake. Trust me, the one mistake is what you will hear about and you will be punished for it.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like human beings. They are not machines. Acknowledge all the positives your employees do for the company. Do not focus solely on the negative. Yes, we all make mistakes. Because we are human, because we are overworked and tired. It might be more productive to try and boost employees morale instead of making them feel that they are not good enough.

I have been working at Charles River Laboratories full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits are decent and health benefits are particularly better than other companies.

    Cons

Toxic work environment, poor leaders on the IT leadership team that create a wall between employees and CIO, promote and reward inexperienced, but favorite people that are aligned with them and proliferate a culture of intolerance, poor work ethic, extreme politics and low productivity. The morale is very low, and people are afraid to speak up because those that try to make improvements are quickly terminated. The leaders appear to be generally threatened by talented individuals and work fast to eliminate them, leaving only the bottom of the pile behind.

    Advice to Management

Clean out your IT and senior leadership team that have a god-complex. It starts at the top in this company.

I worked at Charles River Laboratories full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

For people new to the industry you will get a lot of experience in a short time. Montreal site still carries some respect from CTBR times but that will not last for much longer.

    Cons

    Very poor management.
    Nepotism
    Poor organization.
Scientific quality is secondary to costs.
    Short termism

    Advice to Management

Employ some real managers with track records, not just friends and yes men.

    Pros

The medical and dental plans are good but then again you pay for them. You also have a pension plans after a couple of years.

    Cons

Low pay, if you are not part of the gang or friends with the manager you do not advance. They also hire friends and couples even though they are aware. Take advantage of you then thank you for your services.

    Advice to Management

Stop brainwashing the employees if you do not apply the rules. Should keep quality employees, company starting to look pretty bad! Not what it used to be.

    Pros

SOME people were nice to work with.
Good for training but most people leave straight away.

    Cons

    Pay was dreadful
Forced overtime with reduced overtime pay
Higher management didn't have a clue what they were doing.
Often promoted people who weren't qualified to avoid paying them overtime.
They seem to favour the people who do less work - harder workers end up picking up the pieces.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

If you can survive the insecure political backstabbing and high school games, the are a few departments worth being in for more than 1-2 years.

    Cons

You could be in a job that requires a degree with others who did not go to college doing the same job, making you think your degree was a waste of money. Favoritism runs rampant like a rash. If you are not a favorite, superiors will set you up for failure until you are fired. Management is married to HR here, so if you have an issue you are limited to how much will be done about it.

    Advice to Management

Need to make a rule about inter-office dating (ban it).
