    Pros

There is something new each day. The job keeps you active and on your toes. The funny stories always help me stay driven.

    Cons

The district expects their teachers to preform miracles without the proper support or pay. My class sizes are huge and we have limited access to technology.

    Cons

An unorganized school district that's too large. The training is not comprehensive and many times there is isn't any training on new curriculum programs and state requirements. Work is constantly piled on without compensation for extra work. Life/work balance is terrible!

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Charleston County School District full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

In addition to earned vacation, all employees get 2 weeks off at Christmas and sometimes a week off at Spring Break.

    Cons

Operations are considered second class and not rewarded. Raises are universal or nothing and at the mercy of politicians. Work life balance does not exist. Lack of knowing or caring about people on a personal level.

I worked at Charleston County School District full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked at St. Andrew's Middle School (which has been redistricted into West Ashley Middle) for about 5 years. The district itself provided limited support as far as training and success of employees. That was left to the individual schools rather then the district owning that process.

    Cons

It seems that most teachers' experiences are greatly based upon the relationships that they have with their principals. I went through multiple favorable years with administration, only to have a TERRIBLE experience once they put in a different principal that was old-school military. He didn't like my "progressive ideas" such as Positive Behavior Intervention System, which had been implemented by the prior administration.

    Advice to Management

Hire better principals that want to work with their teachers rather than run an authoritative regisme.
