I have been working at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Teaching children and if lucky enough to be at a good school, the school environment can be positive. Knowing that the work I put in helps my students even if the scores don't reflect that.

    Cons

    Lack of support
No true cut-off from work and personal life
The stress on student scores and lack of acknowledging classroom effort.
Behaviors are out of control and there is no true behavior system in place.

I have been working at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent school system that gives you many opportunities for development as a teacher. Wonderful students who teach you a lot and are serious about learning. Amazing colleagues who challenge your practice and help encourage you.

    Cons

Sometimes CMS feels too big, however the smaller learning communities help you get to know people better and connect you to others more easily.

I have been working at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a great feeling knowing you are helping children grow and to succeed in life and showing them that people love and care for them.

    Cons

When the children are not in compliance and the parents don't do all they can to assist in their children's well being.

    Advice to Management

Have more consequences in order for children with behavior issues so that it cannot continue to get out of control.

I have been working at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Healthcare for employees only is less than $20 per pay period. The work environment has very little stress, depending on the time of year and your job.

    Cons

Support staff is paid so low that almost everyone has a second or third job. Little attention is given to the needs, financial or otherwise, of support staff.

    Advice to Management

When heading to Raleigh and the City to seek higher wages for teachers, advocate for the support staff as well because there is not one school in this district that could operate without its secretaries, custodians, security staff or cafeteria workers!
