    Positive Outlook

I worked at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Among the best-paid public districts in NC. Some very smart, talented and dedicated colleagues.

    Cons

Typical of any large, public-school system: bureaucracy, limited resources, thankless tasks. Charlotte doesn't have the socioeconomic problems of other urban districts, but it has problems and they are challenging. Also the district has a tendency to change philosophy and focus in educational initiatives too quickly so it is impossible to implement programs with fidelity. Things can get political and how many degrees you have will ALWAYS come before your experience and talent when it comes to promotions.

    Advice to Management

Good luck. The district is too big, so I don't know if there is a "right way" to do things.

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Always hiring, great for new teachers to get that first job and gain experience but don't expect it to be your lifelong school

    Cons

Low pay, nepotism, treat employees as "indentured servants", roaches problems, administration tends not to "back" teachers, when you have a child in your classroom with behavioral issues do not expect administration to handle the real problem (example: sending students to the office for fighting and they come back with snacks).

    Pros

I found CMS to have a great deal of resources for schools.

    Cons

Oftentimes CMS was engaged in far too many strategies that would start, but would never finish because there were too many.
