I have been working at Charming Charlie full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I've so far worked for Charming Charlie for 5 years and it is the best job I have ever had. I certainly believe in people work for people and that as leaders, you set the tone in your store. The quality is much better than from when I first started, I love my team including DM, peers, Regional, and our executives. They are some of the hardworking people I know. My customers are great and it NEVER gets old bonding with a customer, especially when it's their first time.

    Cons

A lot of these complaints are internal such as my GSM did this, did that or DM did this or that. I wish they could have experienced it from my end.

Yes, they are a bit disorganized. But who isn't? It's business and decisions sometimes are made in the moment. Not only that, the primary leaders should look at the situation different and use their problem solving skills to implement a quick solution. I guarantee you put someone in the store who is passionate, inspiring, structured, and positive, there will be a difference in numbers.

Yes, we let go 1 or 2 positions in most low volume stores. Our company does care because they didn't have to offer you a position or a severance package. Some companies didn't even offer that. And it's business. A lot of companies have realigned in the past few years.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing you and figuring out what our next step is. Retail is a cut throat world especially now that e-commerce is our biggest competitor.

Replace those not passionate about the company with those who are. We need strong leaders in the business to make a difference. Those who can inspire their team, not ones who are negative. That is what will hurt the numbers.

Keep challenging us to be better leaders. No one successful ever became successful without some hard work.

I have been working at Charming Charlie part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The environment is a fun one to work in. Coworkers and most customers are really nice and genuine. On most days it doesn't even feel like working.

    Cons

As the part time manager you're sometimes not treated very nice. Upper management makes it hard to take time off even for small things and you're given as much responsibility as the full time managers with none of their perks.

    Advice to Management

Other than how hard it is to ask for time off and the fact that a little too much is expected of the Sales Leads this is a great and fun place to work.

I worked at Charming Charlie full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Well appointed offices
    Everyone is polite
    Nationwide brand
    Individuals are friendly
New management has some people hopeful

    Cons

Wouldn't recommend working here if you are looking for a career
It's a good foot in to the retail industry, leave after you have 1 year experience
    HR's hands are tied
People are afraid of losing their jobs and creates a weird company culture
Employees are playing musical chairs - moving from department to department to fill gaps left by layoffs and departures
Currently employees comprised of a mix of new hires, people actively seeking new positions, and veterans who intend to stay long term
Business won't last another 5 years if this continues
    Incompetent mid level staff

    Advice to Management

Be open minded in general. Doing things the way they have always been done or copying off of competitors that are innovating won't keep the business afloat for long. Hire young creative change agents to help with change. Don't recruit change agents from within, if they can't handle their area of business with any innovation why would they be able to affect change in the company as a whole. Take calculated risks to cut costs and increase revenue. Think outside of the box.

    Pros

Fun, creative environment with a friendly staff. As the Senior Operational Sales lead I am given the freedom to tweak my mapping and floor layout to how I see fit for my store.

    Cons

Upper management and corporate are very indecisive. Communication isn't always clear. Sometimes things are made a lot harder then they need to be.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to be on the same page as corporate.
