Work with hard working and smart people. The company cares about their employees . Benefits are great.

    Cons

Layoffs when times are slow, especially for people that would in production. Also sometimes feel overworked.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people and keep them so current employees do not feel overworked.

I worked at Chart Industries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Chart is very involved in the community and helping plant workers during the holidays, to make sure they have a Christmas meal.

    Cons

Poor communication, poor management. They tend to hire applicants from other companies instead of promoting within, so there’s no stability

    Advice to Management

Managers should be able to perform the tasks done by the people who report to them.

    Pros

    People, people, people, people, people

    Cons

Senior management is out of touch with the work force

    Advice to Management

Many people in senior management positions are new to the company. They need to take the time to actually meet their employees. When Sam Thomas was in charge everyone knew who he was. He would often visit the plant and you could find him talking with production workers. We had plant meetings with CEO and other top managers. My guess is that 70% of employees don't know the name of the current CEO and closer to 80% don't know what he looks like. Same for the rest of the senior management team.

    Pros

Company manages by quarterly / annual goals.

    Cons

Has developed a reputation for boom and bust. Quick to layoff employees during slow business cycles.

    Advice to Management

Too quick to hire, open new offices and new plants. If business slows down layoffs occur, offices close and plants are consolidated. Be more plan-full.

    Pros

Chart has an employee focused culture. They value the input of their employees and act on their suggestions to improve workplace engagement. They have very competitive pay in the oil & gas divisions.

    Cons

They are in a cyclic industry that makes retention of key employees during a downturn. Too much turnover in the senior management levels.

    Advice to Management

Set a strategy and do not deviate. Make the difficult decisions about under performing businesses. Seek management stability.

    Cons

Too many changes to the company this year. Several executive level management changes, facilities being closed, relocation of the Corporate office and acquisitions. Significant turnover of staff.

    Advice to Management

The business reasons for the changes are good but it's too many all at once.
