I have been working at Charter Communications full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    company vehicle for commute
    tools supplied
    good insurance
    in depth training
    strong company backbone
    room for growth and advancement
    encouraged to progress

    Cons

Technicians are not paid enough for the work that they do. Raises are promised and are not given. Certain supervisors are not willing to supply technicians with what they need to succeed in their jobs

    Advice to Management

Consider raises after probationary periods. This field is one with a high turnover but not rewarding those who stick with it will do nothing but lead to a higher turnover rate and cause qualified individuals to seek employment elsewhere

I worked at Charter Communications (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good support of tools to help with job performance.

    Cons

Very clicky atmosphere. If you're not accepted into the "group", don't expect them to acknowledge your existence -- even when they pass you in the hallway. Management is very good al soliciting ideas and then taking credit for them. Watch your back because no one cares about you and you're just a number to the company.

    Advice to Management

Treat all of your employees fairly.

I worked at Charter Communications full-time

    Pros

Benefits are good, particularly given Obamacare/ACA destroying the healthcare system.
Used to be able to work from home overnights to save you from the half asleep commute.

    Cons

Human resources run the show, horrible internal bureaucracy. Upper management is absolutely inconsiderate of a vast majority of employees livelihood; only concerned with themselves, such as the new CEO moving HQ to where HE lives instead of just moving himself. After the TW merger it was announced that one of the most heavily overnight divisions was moving to Denver where Comcast runs there internet imprint which means no working from home for those who move. Absolutely ridiculous.

    Advice to Management

It is idiotic and irresponsible to move your people around like pawns. The Denver move for the Madison DNT group was a slap in the face and a total let down for there entire division. Not to mention the hundreds of years of lost experience to the company.

I have been working at Charter Communications as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great working environment in the DNT-I department. Cannot speak for other departments. Management tries to help the employees as much as possible.

    Cons

Obvious and somewhat expected disconnect between upper management and DNTI Management causes issues.

    Advice to Management

Ask the people who perform the work before forcing procedural/policy changes on them.

    Pros

Charter local KMA's are fantastic, lot's of great employees, free charter tv/internet. Your basic benefits, sick time, yearly acquired vacation time,etc...

    Cons

Working under the national retail channel, you will be working in a remote channel with a list of 3rd party retailers specializing in sales of direct competition, Dish,Direct Tv,Century Link,etc... It is your job to persuade your retail partners to sell Charter on the backs of Charter competition. Issue #1, ongoing commission restructuring with our retail partners bounty programs. I had witnessed 3 commission restructures in 18 months, paying dealers half of their original earned commission rate and how they are paid. Issue #2, most active dealers that have been in the program for longer then 8 months will harbor resentment towards Charter's continued focus to take away commissioning earning/profits from dealers producing 20 and under connects a month, 85% of the market are dealers producing under 20 connects. There is no Coop or advertising funding from Charter to drive sales to your retailers. It is your job to influence, persuade or lie to you're retailer by any means necessary by dangling incentive programs designed to drive connects for Charter in the hopes your dealer does not hit there targeted goal. Issue #3, If you are one of the lucky AR's, you will have a Sales Executive "SE" actively working to find you new dealers in your designated area. Wisconsin had last their Sales Exec "SE" in December of 2015, this position has yet to be filled, "June 2016". leaving AR's in Michigan, Wisconsin and, Minnesota with no access to new dealers. This was a constant conversation with my boss and his only suggestion was, we start acting as a SE's and find our own new dealers, while not comping us for the additional work of on boarding new retail partners. Issue#4, Sales quota's are not based on dealer historical data/seasonal data, but the management team and your forecasted totals for the following 90 days. Charter management will use your forecasted sales totals as a commission cap, you will hear constantly on your weekly calls that you are not doing you job by not hitting your forecasted number or proceeding your totals and actually producing more connects that month. You are not paid on commission unless you hit 70% of your targeted goal! It is your job to keep track of all your sales, file claims for missing sales and you are held accountable for Charter installers not completing the install or the customer's order being stolen from a inside Charter sales rep.

SOSP, BE AWARE! You are required to sign the SOSP. What this does is hold you accountable to hitting 100% of your targeted goal monthly. If you fail to do so, you will receive a verbal, written and, final warning. Now he is the tricky part, from the date you receive your written warning, this warning follows you a year forward. Meaning, regardless of how you performer over the next year, if at any point you do not hit your goal by 100%, you will then receive a Final warning, which follows you forward for another year, if you fail to hit your targeted goal by 100% at any point, you will be terminated!

Management is not held accountable on any level! Management will remind you weekly on team calls , 1 on 1's and emails how poorly the channel is doing and how management is not earning enough based on current sales/Triple Play attachment rates.Lower producing sales people are constantly called out on the team calls.

    Advice to Management

You will be subject to constant management changes! In my 20 months in the channel, I had 2 Directors and 3 bosses, 2 weekly team calls that consisted of management badgering you for dealer actions plans and the ever constant, "Deep Diving" into your retail partners due to lack of leadership on the management team to actually lead the team and give you something beneficial to use with your dealers. 1 monthly sales call for the entire team to go around the table and recap their month, again management does nothing to help over come or recommend how to over come dealer issues, so connect with your peers for direction and help in dealing with issues in the field. Micromanagement runs rampant in the retail channel, this is a very hostile work environment. The current management team does not follow Charter's, "Open Door" policy, they actually used a weekly sales call to discuss the current director/management teams, "Chain of Command" policy, which is in clear violation of Charter policy. If you have a issue with your boss, you are directed not to contact his boss or our director directly without attaching him in the email chain and making him aware! Upper management loves to send out random emails towards the sales group, noting only the negative in the current sales numbers, how quota's are only going up and, you will be held, "Accountable" for your numbers and attitude on sales calls. No consideration for work/life balance, no incentives for sales teams, management pushes/recommends you to sell for your retailer to help drive sales.

    Pros

Work outside. On your own all day! Was a good company b4 they work us like dogs.

    Cons

No time to do anything. Only give you a hour to trouble shoot problems at customers location. keep adding things in that hour. Your expected to check all wiring, go up the pole check that. Which takes closer to two hours. But they book you with so many appointments you cant do them all 100%. Management is no help. The worse part is they do quality control on about 6 jobs you do a month. Then if there is one loose fitting you fail the job. This is throughout charter. They will not keep technicians at this rate!!!

    Advice to Management

Listen to your technicians out in the field. We are the face of your company. The changes made in the last year are not working. So listen when we tell you things need to change.
