    Pros

Knowing that you are helping students gives a sense of accomplishment for your hard work. The expectations of higher management are both firm and gentle, ensuring you will be challenged, but not unreasonably so.

    Cons

When deadlines come around, pressure can sometimes reach a boiling point and management loses their cool. Also some behind-the-scenes drama that doesn't help anyone.

    Advice to Management

Not much I can really think of. Maybe try to focus on better marketing, especially web outreach. We already have a decent online presence, but its the bare minimum for an online university. Most of the people I talk to don't even know what the school is before I explain it to them.

I worked at Charter Oak State College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

State job, well-intentioned staff and good students.

    Cons

High stress created by poor management. There is very low employee morale which results in low productivity and too much time spent on internal conflicts and unclear expectations. Highly talented staff are poorly managed. Very little opportunity for growth within the organization. Problems are not addressed proactively but allowed to grow. This is an extremely unpleasant work place with very little emphasis on quality or creativity. Staff are increasingly being expected to do more with less and support staff are treated with extreme lack of respect and consideration. Many complaints against supervisors have been filed in recent years.

    Advice to Management

Put more money in people and creating an effective and inspired workforce and less money on toys.

I have been working at Charter Oak State College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexibility and benefits. Some of the work is very good with great potential

    Cons

No focus on employee needs, development or satisfaction. No thought on how employees will be able to complete work in a quality manner. Management focused on own needs rather than on organizational needs. Organization does not work well together due to lack of leadership. It is quite obvious the leaders in the organization have not been trained to do their job well and make it up as they go. Depressing environment to work in.

    Advice to Management

Sincerely recognize good performance in your staff. Consider their suggestions and encourage staff to work together and be supportive of each other. Demonstrate that behavior yourself.

  5. "Leadership is a wreck; low morale among employees; no opportunities for advancement"

    Pros

Generally co-workers are very nice and well intentioned, supervisors are flexible during family emergencies and benefits are very good. Best union representation in the state. They do not micromanage but give you freedom to manage your own workload.

    Cons

upper management is not always upfront about work demands; management is not responsive to staff requests for improving the organization; history of issues that have been swept under the rug (CYA is the mentality in HR), management has limited vision for the college; management tends to support an "old boy network" mentality and does not recognize it's best and brightest staff; staff not paid based on excellence or experience- salaries seem based on who you know

    Advice to Management

Recognize the employees that are excellent and stop supporting and advancing those who are mediocre
