I worked at Charter Schools USA full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Making friends as you ride out the drama together. Valuing those very few moments of collaboration and accomplishing something for kids and parents.

    Cons

Charter Schools USA is nothing short of a toxic work environment. The stress of trying to collaborate across departments (silos are second nature here) combined with the drama generated by employees and upper management (yes, managers were guilty of this on a regular basis) gave me little to no hope that I had a future here. For three years I witnessed constant turnover, employees stress about their jobs, and leaders refuse to change the way they've done things, even if that way was unproductive, simply because "that's how we've always done it." The simplest things that you would expect in a corporate environment are nonexistent here: work culture, collaboration across departments, and even something as straightforward as exit interviews. I cannot begin to describe the amount of manpower that was wasted at this company due to HR simply not doing exit interviews. The resulting scramble and stress only added to the already low employee morale, which was made evident to me by the way people complained about being overworked and of not feeling recognized or appreciated. In the end, leadership has little to no visibility of their employees' morale, and if they do, they typically keep it to themselves and do nothing about it. Above all else, I saw no future here because I saw no one advancing from within. I knew some of the most talented individuals at the organization who left because the company simply did not give them the chance to advance in their careers. I can only imagine them now working at an organization that actually appreciates them and values their talents and ideas, something Charter Schools USA almost never did unless those ideas were from the CEO, his family or executive leaders. On a similar note, there is a severe lack of diversity in upper management and executive positions, as most of these positions are taken up by older white men or the CEO's family members. It is sad that I have to write about a company with a seemingly good cause, but I cannot lie when I say this was one of the most stressful, drama-filled jobs in my life. At the end of the day, the company is a revolving door. You walk in with a job, earn some experience (and some gray hairs) along the way, and walk out the other side to a hopefully higher-paying, much less stressful job. My only advice to anyone reading this is to tread carefully if you decide to walk through that door that is Charter Schools USA.

I worked at Charter Schools USA full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There's nothing good to mention about this organization and 1 star rating is not even decerving. How about a negative 5 star rating.

    Cons

The only goal is to keep up the # of enrolled students. Educating students is not a priority. If you're interested in teaching you'll very dissatisfied. Prepare to babysit and call security to squash disruptive behavior. Students do whatever they want from an early age and think they're there to socialize only, bully each other and learning is not a thought. They know there's no deciplinary system and any teacher who takes the job seriously will be humiliated by administration. Teachers, students and administration treat each other in a rationally descriminating manner and are separated accordingly. Some are thought Cambridge is elite and some are that students of certain ethnicity are never smart enough to be included. Only one set of students of a certain ethnicity are deemed qualified and the decision is not backed by academic abilities and performance. Some are thought they're just not capable. This was heart breaking to see and I could not condone it. I was therefore severaly deciplined for going against this status quo. The students are trained to have their parents file complaints against teachers who do not condone the system. This the worse school culture I've seen anywhere and hope never to experience again. I'd never enroll a child and I'll never teach in these schools again. I would not recommend it to anyone.

I worked at Charter Schools USA full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Honestly, can not think of much, besides I got to work with kids and teach them as best as I could.

    Cons

-no support for teachers -administration was lying to parents -administration was rude to teachers -little pay is not worth the amount of work you are expected to do off clock -little resources i.e. manipulatives -pressure to meet state exam expectation is unrealistic - NO SUPPORT from admin.
