I have been working at Charter Schools USA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The salary is sufficient, but more is expected due to the amount of work the job entails.

    Cons

-constantly blamed for serious, untrue claims made by students and parents
-encouraged to not correct student misbehavior due to fear that students would leave the school
    -no protection for some teachers
-regarded as if you are not even a person or have no feelings
-employees gossip about obvious lies created by students about a teacher having an inappropriate relationship with a student
-reputation ruined by gossip shared between administration, employees, and parents
    -subjective evaluations and favoritism
-told that my ideas were not useful, until someone else suggested the same ideas
-parts of administration are not aware of what other members of administration are doing
-students are not adequately disciplined if at all for behavioral problems
-punishes teachers if they feel you bring negative attention to the school

    Advice to Management

The blame needs to be redirected from the teacher to a more appropriate source as everything cannot be the teacher’s fault. Issues start from the top and trickle to the bottom. CRTs should be monitored based on the quality of what's supposedly being provided to help teachers. Realize that all of management has a responsibility; there are too many unchecked powers within the organization. "Absolute power corrupts absolutely."

    Pros

Amazing potential for growth and leadership opportunities for those who are committed and driven. The company puts much thought into ensuring you are placed in the right seat, on the right bus, at the right time. The curriculum is strong and student performance is ever increasing as a result. Hard work is being invested in streamlining a teacher's role to focus on instruction and delivering effective and engaging lessons.

    Cons

It can be a lot of work, but as an individual, you have to know how to manage your time and focus on yourself and your home life.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing- you are in tune with the changes that need to be made and are taking action!

    Pros

You have a job that can pay bills and they have an array of benefits which some they pay for.

    Cons

No advancement unless you know someone in administration or at corporate.

    Advice to Management

Value your hard working employees and don't have a set pay baseline for everyone. Provide increases.

    Pros

Management is thoughtful and understanding, employees are treated as individuals with lives separate work. Company places significance upon team building and coworker relationships.

    Cons

Pay falls on the lower side of market rates, even though company is for-profit.

    Advice to Management

Company complains of high churn and seems to take punitive approach to reduce, this only increases it. If you're a for-profit company it's unreasonable to expect people will work for less money.

    Pros

-Coworkers are great and are the only way you will receive useful training.
-The regime rules are clearly stated.

    Cons

-Never ending supply of deadlines and blame floating around. You can get thrown under the bus daily if you wish.
-Never ending supply of scheduled tasks. If you thought you'd make some copies....think again, you are now tutoring. Thought you'd collaborate with coworkers? Think again, you are now on some poorly contrived committee, born from loose rules and faded guidelines. You'll probably be publically humiliated because of said commitee.
-Never ending meetings on how people can show support and appreciation. Try being a human, those things should come naturally.

    Advice to Management

    Prescribed burning and start over.

    Pros

CSUSA model works! Lots of feedback and suggestions to improve instruction.

    Cons

Low salary compared to local district. High stress environment due to unreasonable demands of admin and not enough support. Lots of staff turnover.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate and support teachers. Increase teacher salaries. Guard teacher planning time. Ensure staff follows the CSUSA model and has appropriate support.
