    Pros

They do a lot of employee appreciation events. The benefits are good.

    Cons

The corporate culture is toxic, and staff treatment varies wildly from department to department. Some managers will block you from applying for internal job opportunities in other departments.

I have been working at Chartwell Retirement Residences

    Pros

Most employees are great, take their work to heart. Good benefits overall for office employees and managers in the residences. Other residence employees, what is called front line, are second class citizens compared to management.

    Cons

Extreme micro-managing in departments. Lack of communication between departments. Seems like each department has its own agenda and goals to meet, no matter how they achieve those goals.

I worked at Chartwell Retirement Residences full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good benefits package (you will need them working here) Average pay. Residents amazing

    Cons

Hmm where to start. Cutthroat, 5 star expectation, 3 star budget, 1 star support. If you manage to meet your goals, you are rewarded with higher goals but no incentive. 24\7 oncall expectation. Training consists of heres a binder figure it out. Extremely high turnover at all levels. Had three bosses in 4 years. Mulpitle senior management to report to with conflicting expectations. Unionized environment 1 manager to 25 employees, no supervisor. I could go on for days but this should suffice.

    Advice to Management

If your not capable of doing the job your managing how are you able to set an expectation. All employees thrive when incentives are in place. Eliminate fear from your employee engagement strategy. Realize that poeple have limits, if an employee feels like you do not care about them that is the performance you will receive. More support is needed at struggling properties than thriving ones. Sales is important and drives business, the management team keeps thier business coming. Dont forget to include all managers in the bonus pie(you would be surprised at how well they work together when its mutually beneficial).

I have been working at Chartwell Retirement Residences full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The residents of the building are what truly make this a great place to work. Benefits are good but the residents are the ones that make it a FUN place to come to each day.

    Cons

Pay is ridiculous. Have been here 5 years and receive only the cost of living price increase each year. Usually 2% but went down this year. Other managers come in and make more than you right off the bat when you've been here a lot longer. Regional team NEVER comes to the house site. Feel like you're completely on your own and have no support.

    Advice to Management

Pay your staff properly. Ensure regional team is doing house visits - makes us feel supported.

I have been working at Chartwell Retirement Residences

    Pros

Chartwell has good benefits and starts at three weeks vacation with another week added every 5 years (I assume this maxes out at some point). Some departments run like a well oiled machine and you can tell that the employees there are happy and fulfilled.

    Cons

The company has grown rapidly in the past year and hasn't kept up with staffing levels, leaving many departments understaffed. Managers tend to focus on following policies to the letter rather than actually solving problems, even when those policies are clearly outdated or not applicable in a particular situation. In my experience, some managers have a nasty habit of tricking contract employees into accepting lower paying jobs at the end of the contract in order to become permanent while keeping them in the higher demand job they did while on contract.

    Advice to Management

Get the staffing levels to where they should be. You can't expect a company to continually grow and not give the homes/departments the support staff they need.
