I have been working at Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

The pay is decent and you get health care.

    Cons

The management treats the employees like dirt. Yells at us in front of the customers. Promises you certain days off if you ask in advance but then don't give it to you. Don't respect you and constantly criticize you, never give complements. Dock your pay as punishment even if you had a legitimate excuse (like out for a religious holiday, even told them in advance). Give you a promotion with a raise then never pay you...

    Advice to Management

Get new supervisors who actually care about the employees and don't treat them like they are beneath them.

I have been working at Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

The best things about the company are good hours, good learning experience, great boss, easy work, wonderful students and staff.

    Cons

The only and biggest downside to this is when the school is closed, you have no work and no compensation. Had I known this I would have not taken this job.

    Advice to Management

It should be disclosed at interview about the off time we get. Also it would be ideal to give some sort of bonus or compensation to aid employees during off periods.

I have been working at Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services part-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Willing to work around class schedules for student employees.

    Cons

Management treats their employees as disposable. They are always understaffed, meaning extra work falls on employees. They are aware of this issue and do nothing about it. No matter how hard you work, they do not appreciate it at all. Pay is not much more than minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with respect, and actually speak to us.

I worked at Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services part-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Worked with your school schedule. Great coworkers. Bosses were approachable. Clear set schedules. Easy to request off. Not too much heavy lifting. Just got food.

    Cons

Not good pay. Didn’t mind the long shifts, but not adequate compensation. Sometimes they didn’t hire enough people so we would be out of a dishwasher somenights/they’d move us around restaurants but we’d be given a heads up before doing that.

    Advice to Management

Pay higher wages and adequately compensate free meals for employees.

I worked at Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good hours if you wanted them, but honestly this is all. Pay is decent for what you have to do but not the best.

    Cons

I worked at The Oaks in Bowling Green, Ohio. Do not ever do that. You are not trained, you are expected to know what to do after your first day immediately, you are treated awfully, you are not allowed to leave even though you already did your job and expected to stay even if the clock strikes the end of your shift, you are left alone with little to no instruction, rules change all the time so if you’re comfortable working,...

    Advice to Management

Actually train people, when I’m done with my shift I’m done so let me leave, stop changing everything and getting mad when someone does something “wrong”, and we should be able to eat for free since we work there.
