I have been working at Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I have worked for Chartwells for one year now, after working for one of their competitors and I could not be happier I made the move. The culture is incredibly positive, the company is growing, people are getting promoted and I feel respected. I'm also proud of the work we do. Our CEO says things like "it's all about the food" and "we need more chef coats" - she respects culinary and hospitality professionals and leads a true food company who cares about quality. When I was being interviewed they told me that I would enjoy being able to be myself at work, and it is true. The culture is the most inclusive I've ever experienced with a real desire to embrace diversity of all kinds, not just checking a box. The CEO is really non-traditional, and she is fun, personable, really smart and seems really dedicated to people and food!

    Cons

Geographically spread out, which can be good also, depending on where you want to live.

    Advice to Management

Pick clients wisely and go after the ones who have a culture we align with! Expand profit sharing.

    Pros

I've been at Chartwells for 2 years and appreciate the emphasis on work/life balance. We all lead busy lives both personally and professionally and to be able to balance both is very important to me. Chartwells really takes care of and listens to their associates which makes me feel valued and important.

    Cons

There are lots of opportunities for internal training, however i would like to see more opportunities to take classes with reputable educational institutions. We are in higher education after all!

    Pros

Pretty hard to get fired. They understand you are a student and that school comes first. Fun friendly workforce makes work enjoyable.

    Cons

Low pay and small raises. Because it is located on a college campus can be very busy and stressful at times.

    Advice to Management

Don't wait so long to fire bad employees. Don't nitpick your good employees because you know they won't start trouble with you.
