    Advice to Management

Search for SKILLED EMPLOYEES AND PAY THEM A COMPETITIVE WAGE. STOP USING THE " ITS A BODY TO FILL THE GAP" MENTALITY PAY YOUR SALARIED MANAGERS OVERTIME IF THEY GO OVER 60 HRS A WEEK OR WORK 7-32 DAYS STRAIGHT

I have been working at Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services part-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Willing to work around class schedules for student employees.

    Cons

Management treats their employees as disposable. They are always understaffed, meaning extra work falls on employees. They are aware of this issue and do nothing about it. No matter how hard you work, they do not appreciate it at all. Pay is not much more than minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees with respect, and actually speak to us.

    Pros

Fantastic coworkers and an easy place to gain experience in customer service.

    Cons

Essentially minimum wage for a disproportionate workload, raises in pitiful increments. Terrifying management. Not because they were all mean but because they were generally unpredictable.

    Advice to Management

Look in the mirror and ask yourself, "Can I make the lives of even just a few of my employees less miserable?".

    Pros

-During the active school semesters (Spring and Fall), you will receive the hours you are scheduled. I have rarely, if ever, had my hours cut. If anything, I receive more hours if I am available and other employees don't come in. -Middle management has always been reasonable and accommodating (speaking personally, as a student). I knew one other GM, previous to the one I have now, and he was also pretty mild mannered....

    Advice to Management

When it comes to the low employee morale, this is really something that shouldn't continue to go ignored. You either have a constant revolving door of employees or you have good employees that have stuck around, but are pretty noticeably unhappy. I think the low salary and absolute minimum wage for hourly workers contributes largely to this. They work very hard for very little- and even if they are happy for the little...

I worked at Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working in public school food services has great hours.

    Cons

It's a grind. Make low quality food for uninterested students at a profit. That means hiring minimum wage workers to produce low quality product. Management has no interest in talent development. They aim for mediocrity and to meet the lowest requirements of their fat government contract. They don't care about the schools or the kids.

    Advice to Management

It's the 21st century. If your bottom line is only $$ you are going to fail.
