I have been working at Chatham Landscape Services full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Chatham Landscape is the first landscape company I have worked with that has a Landscape Training Specialist (LTS) That trains new associates IN THE FIELD! The LTS rides in the truck with us and has 'rolling meetings' in between stops. Once we get to the job site, they are hands on and work side by side with us so that we not only understand what we are supposed to be doing but WHY. I learned more from the CLS LTS...

      Cons

Small Fish in Big Pond. I worked with a smaller company where I was given a lot of responsibility and just basic training. I went to Chatham thinking I was ready to be a Supervisor. Not Ready. My advice is to make a move sooner than later to a larger, professional company to get into the mix.

      Advice to Management

Have company meetings more than once a quarter. Informative, Music and High Energy, Love them!

I worked at Chatham Landscape Services full-time for more than a year

      Pros

You are guaranteed 40 hours of work each work. You get a tan and stay in shape. You work hard for your money.

      Cons

The work is hard, the summer is hot, and the hours are long.

      Advice to Management

      More training.

I have been working at Chatham Landscape Services full-time for more than 10 years

      Pros

The former 'Manager' that posted provided partial information. On the rare occasion that a Manager or person on Salary is reassigned or demoted, Chatham Landscape goes to great lengths to find another, more appropriate position within the company for them which can be an hourly position in lieu of having to terminate them. Again, this happens rarely, less than one time every couple of years. We employ over 130 Full...

      Cons

Lack of competition in the Healthcare System has increased our healthcare coverage substantially. Our hope is that the market becomes more favorable and that CLS can offer more affordable health coverage sooner than later. Having said that, Health Insurance is offered to all Full Time associates at Chatham Landscape.

      Negative Outlook

I worked at Chatham Landscape Services full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Decent salary for the landscape industry.

      Cons

They will give you a flashy "job title". No matter what you're called.. you are a glorified laborer. They will pay you a salary during the spring and summer, the busiest time of year when you're working 60+ hours and being paid for 40. Then they switch you to an hourly wage for the slow time of year when you might get 30 hours in a week. None of this is disclaimed when you start. You will be taken advantage of at Chatham.

      Advice to Management

Treat people right, give someone their realistic job description on what to expect... do not juice it up to be better than it is. Let someone know beforehand that their livelihood will be impacted in the Salary to Hourly switchover (out of nowhere).

I have been working at Chatham Landscape Services

      Pros

I have been working with Scott Chatham since 2003. During that time, our company has grown 20% annually including 2 recessions. Scott is a visionary that strives to provide the best customer service and landscape offerings anywhere. He is not afraid to ramp up in the name of making our brand shine and to support future needs before it happens to ensure we produce the best quality in the market. Chatham Landscape is...

      Cons

The Landscape business is Hot in the summer, Cold in the winter and start time is early. Other than that, those that choose to make a career of the landscape business have a true passion for its upsides and a work ethic that allows them to focus on those traits even when mother nature isn't on our side.

I have been working at Chatham Landscape Services full-time for less than a year

      Pros

I have been working at Chatham for a month and a half now and I couldn't be more satisfied. The upper management are the best in the industry. They are helpful, motivating, and genuinely want to see you and the company succeed. There is a great culture and every employee is here to help one another. The landscaping industry is fast paced and ever changing, so if you like that kind of atmosphere this is the perfect place...
