I worked at Chattem full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The pay is better than a fast food or retail job. You will be properly taught each position and supervisors are great at making sure you understand your duties. You get to pick which schedule you want to work. It's a clean, safe environment very strict about following PPE rules. You get a 30 minute lunch and a 15 minute break later.

    Cons

The conversations that happen regularly here are highly inappropriate and unprofessional. People are not respectful and often harass each other and gossip. If you are a temp, you aren't treated with the same respect as Chattem employees. Temps get sent home regularly when Chattem employees run out of work and want to take their places. Some supervisors would rather stand around and talk than help with the work and... actually supervise their employees. There is little notice when you have to work over, and there are a lot of days you will be sent home early because machines aren't working or you finished making the quota. There also isn't any storage availability to temps, so you have nowhere safe to keep important things like wallets and keys.

    Advice to Management

Supervise the conversations that occur in this place. So many things are inappropriate and uncomfortable to hear. This is a place of work, not a bar. The misconduct in this place is absolutely unbelievable to me and needs to be addressed.

    I worked at Chattem full-time

    Pros

Employees are united in working to get the job done and are very flexible in doing so. Decisions are made fairly quickly. The people truly care about you and your life outside of work.

    Cons

Not as much opportunity for serious career advancement with a generally young staff currently in place.

    Advice to Management

Establish a solid career path and on boarding program for new employees.

I have been working at Chattem

    Pros

Company has a family feel which is good and bad. Not micro-managed, allowed autonomy to create programs at own accounts Directors stay out of your business for most part, unless issue arises More access to management than anywhere else this size

    Cons

Opportunities for advancement few & far between. Many people here until retirement even if they should not be. Only "selected" individuals given chances for advancement. Then given extra attention and opportunities to look better to solidify "selection." Systems are bogging down daily workload Below average pay

    Advice to Management

Pay better, not at industry average currently Listen to people, even if not what you want to hear Provide more opportunities to advancement, not to just select few

    I worked at Chattem

    Pros

The pay and benefits are decent.

    Cons

Supervisors play favoritism among their employees which makes for an unstable and hostile work environment. People know when they are being treated unfairly. There is serious click ganging on their assembly lines as well. Employees work in fear of being fired everyday. Temps are also mistreated. Opportunities are only for their "favorite" employees.

    Advice to Management

CEO should acknowledge employees that are trying to tell them and HR about an unfair Supervisor. Disciplinary action should be taken against wrongful Supervisors like it is for employees. Instead, they come back acting worse, as if they know their job is secure no matter what they say or do to an employee. Supervisors should be demanded by CEO and HR to separate or fire all click gangers and bullies, instead of... firing the employee who is coming for help.
