I worked at Check 'n Go (More than a year)

    Pros

Hiring process was quick and easy. It felt as if I just applied and was hired rather quickly.

    Cons

It was very misleading what the job truly entities. It’s basically an updated version of shark loans and horrible practices. They lend such small amounts of loans $500 and then charge insane interest rates to consumer over 100% and in some cases 350% interest rate. People who are in need take out these loans and in return we force them to lay three times the amount they borrowed in a small time frame . When I showed up , associates were just as rude as customers we were giving loans to. But if you step back you can see why they would be upset. After reviewing the public company website and actually look at everything it’s absurd the interest rate is this high.

    Advice to Management

Rethink your strategy , it’s not fair some of these repayment methods. I understand we’re a payday lender company but should conduct ourselves better. Also it would be great to have disclosed what actually happens in a branch vs what corporate does.

    Pros

    Sunday's off. Paid holidays, vacations.

    Cons

If you enjoy getting threatened to be fired because your ddo is "pissed off" this is the place for you. The moral of the district is not pleasant.

    Advice to Management

Show some appreciation to your employees.

I have been working at Check 'n Go full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

benefits; hours of operation; work environment. Wonderful co-workers and customers.

    Cons

sales culture environment; hours not dependable; no opportunity for advancement from within. Expect too much work and dont want to give CSR's hours for it.

    Advice to Management

Quit pushing this new sales culture to the extreme on employees, most of us don't have photographic memories. Too many conference calls and emails, especially "role playing" surrounding this. Losing good employees because of this. Look for management from within the company and not outside sources. Change procedures on determining hours for employees.

    Pros

    Hours better than traditional retail

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Corporate office viewed all field associates as easily replaceable. Very negative culture came from the top.

    Pros

Hmmm let's see.....paychecks do not bounce.

    Cons

No lunch breaks. Open to close by yourself pretty much every day. Mounds of redundant paperwork. Answer phone, write loans, take payments, close the loans, do the collection calls simultaneously. Your hours are subject to being cut down to 22. Credit scores go this low?? Be sure to make the customer take all they were approved for.

    Advice to Management

    Look for a new job.

I worked at Check 'n Go full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Managers are in charge of running their own stores without someone staring over their shoulder -- scratch that, it's EXTREMELY micro-managed. I'm talking THREE meetings via the phone EVERY SINGLE DAY with updated submissions of work complete. So, if you're an irresponsible person who can't be a manager but wants the title, this is a HUGE pro.

    Cons

No one EVER knows what's going on and where anyone will work from day to day. They can't keep CSRs busy enough to work enough hours so management is expected to run their own store, by themselves, six days a week. Learning the job is like playing the shell game -- where the ball is under one of three shells. They have one learning program written by someone with a below-par education for such a task. The health benefits are not very good, but fairly expensive. And the WORST part is the security. They have protection for the store, via alarms, etc., but the open front is begging for trouble. They let you know your first day there are cameras and how to make sure when counting bills you do it so the camera can see everything. Most of what they tell you is the cameras are there to watch the employees, not for safety purposes. The language used is crass and boys' gym room operating with cliques. Professionalism isn't a big asset there.

BIGGEST TURN-OFF: Absolutely NO breaks!!!!! You must grab your food and throw a bite down (if you have it delivered or brought your lunch) and rush out if you hear the door open. The phone cannot ring more than 2x, even if you're using the facilities, or you get docked.

    Advice to Management

If you want a manager -- ONLY hire someone you feel comfortable managing the store -- not someone you feel needs serious micro-managing. TRUST or don't hire.

Also, if you have two different systems, have your learning materials reflect as much. Honestly, at least 1/3 of my time was spent learning things from the AZ store on a product UT doesn't even have -- BUT you must pass the test to move on. A lot of time is wasted and paid for here. You could literally cut training time by at least a week by having an updated system, which is money you could be spending on running the store rather than training and testing on a system that won't be used.

Nowhere to advance. Backstabbing and gossip run rampant. I don't behave that way, so it was awkward for me.

Also, have gatherings more than the singular summer fling. Managers should get to know each other while they're not under pressure so they have time to talk casually. The more the team knows each other, the more they'll rely on each other and refrain from nastiness against themselves. What kind of teamwork does that promote?

I worked at Check 'n Go full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Not many pro's now days for this organization, unless there have been major changes in the upper levels of management.

    Cons

Ancient technology and management styles, borderline predatory practices, workplace harassment issues, just to name a short list.

    Advice to Management

Clean up and update your technology, eliminate the "dictators" in your senior management and recognize what your "in the trenches" personnel face running your stores on a daily basis. Take a look back at how this company was being run 5 to 8 years ago and think about stepping back a bit.

I just took a job here and I'm kinda worried I won't be able to move up I hope this isn't true

    Cons

    Pros

Sundays off, some customers nice, maybe you get lucky and gwt more than 20 hours a week of your a CSR

    Cons

I am a CSR and do exactly every single thing the Store Manager does. A'll the training videos are a joke, and focus on the wrong situations. Very little pay for a very demanding and stressful job. I'm a Store Manager without the pay or title. I was hired in under the impression I would be 'full time' but found out quickly you will be part time <20 hours a week ($10hr) and only Store Managers get full time. Way to much asked of me for almost no pay. Not to mention social security day and Fridays are way understaffed and employees are quickly overworked. Only go to this job as a last resort. I'm a CSR and only got full time because my SM transferred. So when they bring in a new SM I'll lose all my hours. Hopefully will find new employment by then. Also the new 3 daily conference calls for stores is absolutely ridiculous, and unnreallistic. Not to mention all the up selling expected of employees to do on the same reoccurring customers that are sick of hearing about it, and then upper management doesn't get that you can only run game on customers so many times before us CSR s start to come off as rude. And Audits are a joke as well. Like I said they expect you to give the same run-down speech about contracts every single time to existing customers and existing customers don't want to hear it every single time. Ovstall would not recommend. I understand the high turnover rate.

    Advice to Management

Pay better and make training about important issues. Not All videos and reading, focus on the actual job.
