    Pros

    Flexible schedule and decent benefits

    Cons

    They don't treat people equally. If you are on the 'friends & family plan', you'll be fine. They don't enforce policies. They grow 20-30% most years, but don't hire staff to accomodate the growth, so it's a big disorganized, insanely busy place to work.

    Advice to Management

    Start enforcing policies on the people who don't follow them. Be honest and do what's RIGHT, not what will make you look good to other people.

    Pros

    good product with fun customers

    Cons

    Management has no regard for their inside sales staff. Their decisions on when an account is "corporate" is arbitrary. If it is convenient for management or makes their outside team happy, they deem it a "corporate account" and strip you of it, with no compensation. Their decisions are inconsistent. If you get your hands on an account with potential, your own manager will try and take the account from you and hand it over to someone else, without any reward. Everyone in upper management is related to one another and their decisions benefit "the family" and not their employees.

    I worked at Chef Works full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Good for someone right out of university with little to no work experience. The management will hold your hand and will control every project you work on.

    Cons

    This is not a good company for someone who can self manage and is forward thinking.
    The job is sold as customer service, but it is primarily data processing and answering phone calls.
    The management speaks inappropriately about employees to other staff members when that employee is not present.
    There is little to no communication from management to staff members through anything but email unless the employee initiates it.
    Disapproval is handled by ignoring the employee rather than addressing the problem to resolve any issues.
    A very unpleasant working environment.

    Advice to Management

    Create a management plan that encourages creativity and taking initiative rather than condemning employees who implement organization and new revenue streams.

    There are a few hard working caring employees that really want to help the company grow and do well.

    Cons

    Senior managment brothers are a nightmare.....

    Your employees know more than you think about the chaos that goes on in the company and your personal lives.

    Pros

    It's a family business, and nepotism rules the day. If you're good at ingratiating yourself to family owners, you might do well here. Better yet, be part of the family, or their religion, or share their country of origin and you could do even better.

    Cons

    Don't expect it to run like a normal company. It doesn't. It runs on the whims of the 4 brothers who own it. Forget what you've learned at any of your other jobs, because they don't want to hear it - in fact, they'll be offended if you bring it up. You've been hired to do what they say and that's it - no matter how ass backwards it seems. Shut up and do it, as the saying goes.

    Advice to Management

    Try not to be offended when experienced employees you've hired give you advice. It might feel like a criticism to you, but really, they're just sharing good knowledge.

    Clock in and Clock out (8 hour days)
    10 days vacation
    1 day Birthday Vacation
    Quarterly Lunch
    Air Conditioned Offices
    Good Product
    Healthcare
    No accountability for screwing up

    Cons

    No direction from management
    Systems are very complex, and mistakes are easily hidden
    Horrible Culture, look busy and you'll be left alone
    Sales reps aren't held accountable
    Issues are ignored
    No communication
    Order entry is tedious and speed is the only metric

    Advice to Management

    Involve your employees in getting feedback
    Upgrade systems
    Pay your employees competitive salaries
    Too much busy work
    We are left to pick up all the pieces and system errors in order to get orders processed. "Fake it till you make it"

    Love the relationships we built with clients.

    Cons

    If you're not South African, don't expect any advancements. Once you start making money, they find a way to take it away by saying your account is now corporate, etc. everyone there thinks they're the owner.

    Great people working there
    Vacation/sick time is good
    Decent activities

    Cons

    Pay is only ok
    HR is NOT there for you
    Very political/misogynistic
    Open opportunities for men, friends, those of the same religious beliefs only

    Advice to Management

    Allow all your employees to flourish, don't play favorites or allow your management "team" to play.
    Promote those with experience and education, not just family or friends

    - CS is at the bottom and everyone knows it
    - O/E systems are tedious and not intuitive
    - Culture is not the best

    Hold other departments accountable for their errors.
