I worked at Chemeketa Community College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Testing could be done on campus or at home, and on my free time since everything was computer based.
Very good pay for a fairly simple job.

    Cons

I didn't get nearly as many job hours in as they had described, since the procedures were fairly short and simple, and there were not very many of them.

    Pros

Students are diverse and very eager to learn.

    Cons

Standard 'use and discard' approach to adjunct faculty.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Chemeketa Community College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A cooperative environment where assisting students is the primary focus. It is a great job for anyone that wants to help others.

    Cons

Low pay and limited advancement opportunity are the unfortunate side effect of a relatively easy and fun job. There are no benefits for part-time employees.

    Advice to Management

I am disappointed at not being able to connect with full time employment. There was a lack of training and formal evaluation that could be valuable for promotions to worthy current employees.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Most people very personable and enjoy helping students gain an education that prepares them for university.

    Cons

There is lots of mediocrity that is perpetuated by poor standards. Lots of unorganized plans and materials that make it difficult to make forward progress.

    Advice to Management

Focus on employees and not let petty differences flourish and cause animosity to grow.

I worked at Chemeketa Community College (Less than a year)

    Pros

Expected deadlines were realistic and the expected output from contractors was minimal. Clients were helpful in knowing what they wanted clearly.

    Cons

None that I can think of. Pay was monthly, but not really a con

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

It seems as if you have joined one big happy family. Great benefits, even if the pay is somewhat low. Generally not an unpleasant place to work. If you like to suck up to the bosses, you will get rewarded.

    Cons

Faculty is the worst. Very bad attitudes & incredibly bad behavior towards anyone not a faculty member. I was cursed out by a faculty member & was not even given an apology; really sub-standard expectations for faculty. If I had cursed out in return I would have been fired on the spot. Be very careful: there are back-stabbers & politics like you would not believe. Hard to imagine it, but better educated people behave worse than those with less education.

    Advice to Management

Get your faculty under control. They think of themselves as "the tip of the spear"; such a violent & stupid metaphor as an excuse for inhuman behavior. Say what you mean & mean what you say; quit paying lip service to the quality of life of your non-faculty employees. Foster a different culture before this blows up in your face.

I have been working at Chemeketa Community College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people, friendly collegiate atmosphere. This is an organization that is striving to become a more pivotal player in the area, however they still retain that home town attitude.

    Cons

There are no benefits associated with a part time position, which isn't uncommon. Parking is a pain and there isn't really anywhere to eat close by. Bring a lunch

    Advice to Management

My supervisor is great, really works with me to help me understand the project scope and priority. Also the Dean is fantastic and treats me with equal respect as she does her long term employees. I have no advice at this time except to say keep doing what you're doing!
