I worked at Chemtura full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I was part of a global team so I was able to built friendships with people from Europe, Asia and South America. I also became to appreciate other cultures and how business is conducted in those cultures.
I was able to learn so much knowledge about the Polyethylene & Electronics Industries as well as other specialty applications.

    Cons

    Financial weakness of the company.
Constant pressure to convert developmental opportunities to commercial activities as soon as possible but catalyst qualification is complicated and lengthy as well as building relationships and gaining trust with new customers.

    Advice to Management

Try and be more patient with catalyst qualifications.
Be conservative on expected growth opportunities when presenting these to upper management.

I worked at Chemtura full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I was provided a huge opportunity to learn and grow. Their systems and technology were good. Policies and processes were also good.

    Cons

There was a lot of turnover in my area. Headquarters moved to Philadelphia and that impacted the morale in Middlebury.

    Advice to Management

Middlebury felt a little disconnected from Philadelphia. Maybe focus on creating a stronger connection.

    Cons

Extremely lean on personnel that everyone is over worked with no time to focus on quality work. Since they downsized so much company has lost so much knowledge. Disorganized with a lot of manual work refuses to utilize their software systems. Depending on your manager, some are no where to be found for weeks.

    Advice to Management

The company was recently sold hope the new company implements processes & procedures.

I worked at Chemtura full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Salaries are competitive. Benefits are above average. 401K matching and health insurance is at or above the industry standards. Specifically the prescription coverage.

    Cons

Lack of adequate resources combined with lack of integrity of upper management creates a toxic environment of finger pointing and back stabbing. Elimination of positions has resulted in very limited career growth opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Change needs to be driven from the top down. EVP and SVP need to stop pointing fingers at each other and start being a team.

You cannot be a market driven innovative company with very limited R&D and technical resources.
