I worked at Chenega Federal Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Seemed genuinely enthusiastic about acknowledging employee goals for growth

    Competitive salaries

    Management accessable

Actually interviewed and hired talent, didn't just fill butts in seats.

    Cons

Management was ill-prepared to adjust CFS to life after small business qualification. Their primary method was just to spin off a new AN 8(a) and align with other business units to leverage past performance. In other words, you could remain with the same customer for 10 years and work for 3-4 different "companies."

    Advice to Management

The core MiOS group was great to work with. Disappointed that my time came to an end, but when presented with the intel that the competing companies had significantly lower wrap rates and profit cut, you'd think that would have been incorporated in the following bid.

I worked at Chenega Federal Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Hired because of former skill sets associated with a very specific "unit" in the military. Good opportunity for vets needing help.

    Cons

Employer is cheap! Salaries are too low and management takes advantage of low-balling employees.

    Advice to Management

This company will always be a success because management has the bottom line up front mentality. You are going to make money here as an employer, and only certain people advance. Chenega Federal Systems is a branch of Chenega that was designed by former Unit Guys only to help FORMER UNIT GUYS....that's it, financially as well as anything else. You all out there in the military community know how and when Chenega Federal Systems got started, and by whom. If you haven't been with the "Unit" you aren't in the club. If you aren't in the "club" you aren't going to advance.

    Pros

At Chenega you are truly treated as family. Great company with solid benefits.

    Cons

    Lacked BD in Tampa area.

    Advice to Management

Work on BD pipeline, regardless of current customer base.

    Pros

    Cons

Management is horrible at communicating. They also tend to play favorites

    Advice to Management

Communicates with employees better. Admit when you screw up

    Pros

None, I was hoping working with a smaller company would be positive experience, not the case.

    Cons

Insulting pay with no chance for promotions or raises unless you are part of an exclusive group.
Horrible benefits. Th best example, employees can only take their leave in 8 hour increments which means you have to use an entire day of leave for any personal matter ( Dr appointment, kids, etc...) Not a company that cares about its employees' work/ life balance

    Advice to Management

Don't hire and promote old buddy's that have no idea what they are doing.

    Pros

    Good money, very competitive benefits

    Cons

Little company support, sleazy leadership, I always felt like the company was trying to pull one over on the client or on me. Watch out for yourself because the company certainly doesn't have your back.

I worked at Chenega Federal Systems full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay. One on one, people are a pleasure to work with. Good performance is usually recognized and rewarded within confines of contract. Open, at times brutally honest, communication.

    Cons

Work-life balance is a catch phrase, while constraints may have been constrained by contract vehicle, was told 10 working days off a year to use as I saw fit; quickly realized that was for all reasons, sick AND vacation. End of first year of a FFP contract that was less than 100% staffed, one person's position whose position was eliminated was put on unpaid leave until customer decided which of the unmanned slots that "resource" could be put against. Upon learning of that customer intervened on behalf of contracted employee until employee was able to find a more secure situation.

    Advice to Management

Taking better care of your people under the above mentioned circumstances. The customer shouldn't have to even though it was because they didn't want to lose an FTE that they were paying for anyway. Company still getting paid on unfilled positions, choosing to pocket that money instead. Is that the message you want to send?

  8. "My experience was very enjoyable as a contractor for DOD, but there was very little chance of advancement"

I worked at Chenega Federal Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay, of the other contractors working similar positions

    Cons

No advancement and dedication to getting former workers employment when contract ends

    Advice to Management

I admired companies like CACI and Wexford who found other positions when their workers were not retained following contract termination. Workers would be more devoted to the organization if they knew Chenega would assist them should a contract end.

    Pros

Great 8a company to work for if you simply want to do your job. They provide an excellent corporate news letter. Great culture for employee spirit and well being (lots of social activities).

    Cons

Not forward thinking and no concern for employee impact of corporate decisions. Management does not support putting in house employees before hiring for new work opportunities. The internal resolutions process is less than satisfying for issues with management or growth potential if you are in the senior level.

    Advice to Management

Look within the walls of your company when staffing new opportunities.
